Aretha Louise Franklin (born March 25, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee) is an American singer, songwriter and pianist commonly referred to as The Queen of Soul. She has earned 18 Grammys to date, including the Living Legend and Lifetime Achievement awards. She has scored a total of 20 Billboard R&B No. 1's as well as 45 Billboard Top 40 hits. In 1987, Franklin became the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
