Editorial Review:
For the explosive Before I Self Destruct album, 50 Cent returned to working closely with DR. DRE and EMINEM as he did on Get Rich Or Die Tryin', his first official album. With DR. DRE and EMINEM producing and guesting, Before I Self Destruct is darker and harder than 2007's Curtis, as shown by the grimy single and video to "OK, You're Right" (produced by DR. DRE), which was released earlier this year. In early September, 50 released the hit single "Baby By Me" produced by POLOW DA DON (FERGIE, T.I., LUDACRIS). Before I Self Destruct continues 50 Cent's phenomenal rise from street culture hero to pop culture icon. Both album and film will be released on Shady/Aftermath on November 16, 2009.

Before I Self Destruct (CD + DVD) Reviews:
Movie Review - Before I Self Destruct 4 Star Review
2009-11-28 - Before I Self Destruct (2009) is an uncompromising view of life in the inner-city that focuses on how things can change without warning. When that happens, you can be forced into making decisions that alter your path and the life of those around you. The story is told from the view of Clarence (Curtis Jackson), who also adds insightful narrative of his thoughts and past throughout the film.

Clarence and Shocka (Elijah Williams) are nurtured and loved by their hardworking single mother. Shocka is gifted academically and excelling in school while Clarence works at the grocery store after his future as a talented basketball player was shattered when he was injured on the court. Coming home one evening Clarence walks by the scene of a shooting without much thought, that is, until the police come to the door with the news that their mother was killed during a shooting. Life gets even harder when Clarence comes home to find an eviction notice the same night he is fired from his job for stealing food to feed his little brother.

After committing an act that opens the door to an illegal life he starts working for Sean (Clifton Powell) as an enforcer. He enforces Sean's enterprise and the code of the streets with deadly force. Shocka's life keeps getting better because Clarence shields him from everything. He is a positive role model at home and keeps Shocka on the right path. As Shocka asks... How long can this continue?

7 out of 10 - Rated R - Overall it is a powerful and thoughtful film that will leave a lasting impression on you. A few hilarious moments are thrown in to offset some of the seriousness. The acting is pretty simple and mostly holds true to the story and life, although a few of the lines from non-lead actors come across unnatural and forced at times. The cinematography was great; making many powerful scenes when combined with the music. I felt some of the sexual encounters where a bit over the top and not needed. Certainly worth the watch.

real talk, honest review here 4 Star Review
2009-11-26 - 50 IS CURSED WITH PEOPLE COMPARING EVERYTHING TO GET RICH OR DIE TRYING, DOES LIL WAYNE GET HIS STUFF COMPARED TO THE GARBAGE HE PUT OUT WITH THE HOT BOYZ? NO, DOES JAY Z GET HIS STUFF COMPARED TO THE UNKNOWN STUFF HE HAD OUT IN HIS EARLY, DAYS, I CAN GO BACK TO HARD KNOCK LIFE, ANYTHING BEFORE THAT MUST OF BEEN GARBAGE. SO EVERYONE STARTED WITH GARBAGE AND GOT SOMEWHAT BETTER, 50 JUST CAME OUT HARD FROM THE BEGINNING SO HE IS CURSED WITH A STANDARD TO LIVE UP TO. HAVING SAID THAT, THIS CD FALLS A LITTLE SUB PAR WHEN IT COMES TO THE BEATS, IN MY OPINION THEY ARE NOT "HARD" ENOUGH WHICH WAS A MISTAKE ON HIS PART, LLOYD BANKS AND TONY YAYO DO NOT FEATURE ON THE ALBUM WHICH IS ANOTHER BIG MISTAKE. I CAN SEE WHY IT WOULDNT SELL AS MUCH, JUST WITH THOSE TWO MISTAKES THERE. THE LYRICS OF THIS ALBUM ARE VIOLENT WHICH SHOWS 50 STILL HAS IT IN HIM AND WILL BOUNCE BACK WHENEVER HE RELEASES HIS NEXT ALBUM, THIS MIGHT BE A LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR 50, WHO JUST WANTED TO DO EVERYTHING HIS WAY FOR THIS ALBUM AND SEEMS BUSY WITH OTHER THINGS AROUND HIM (COLOGNE, BOOKS....ETC..) . HAVING SAID ALL THAT, I BOUGHT THIS ALBUM BECAUSE I WILL SUPPORT 50, THE SALES OUT THE 1ST WEEK DO NOT GIVE THIS ALBUM JUSTICE, THIS ALBUM IS NOT BAD LIKE THOSE #'S SHOW, NO BANKS OR YAYO REALLY HURT IT THOUGH, IN MY OPINION. LIKE DJAY TOLD SKINNY BLACK ON HUSTLE AND FLOW "Come home, man." FIF U JUST GOTTA COME HOME.

Album Of The Year 5 Star Review
2009-11-26 - 50 Cent delivers the best album of 2009 with Before I Self Destruct. The production and lyrics are by far his best since Get Rich Or Die Tryin. If you like true gangsta rap this cd is a must have.

This album is sick 5 Star Review
2009-11-26 - 50 is great at what he does. No, he is the best! I think it is a shame that there isn't as much humour as the old days, but he is pretty much owning his genre. Dark and murky gangster ish, and some balling and fly girl tracks. He kills JAy Z everytime

50 is back! 5 Star Review
2009-11-25 - ok so maybe his first week sales weren't so hot. but this album is fire. burns curtis (crap) to the ground! if he released this in 2001-2005 it would be a classic, 1 million first week easily.
