50 Cent - "Power Of The Dollar" (5 stars) 5 Star Review
2008-10-22 - In 2000, just a few weeks before he was shot 9 times, rapper 50 Cent just completed and was ready to release his debut album "Power Of The Dollar", but due to his shooting incident, he was dropped from Columbia Records and the album was shelved. However, with no surprise, it was leaked.

Despite 50 Cent's tarnished career nowadays, the man used to have really good rapping talent. And this album represents it well. His flow was great, which consisted of the Queensbridge, New York style that Nas, Mobb Deep, etc. have put on the map. His lyrics comprised of the usual grimy, east-coast theme that many hip-hop consumers have come to enjoy. He is on point throughout the entire album lyrically. Never again would 50 be this good on the mic.

Trackmasters provided second-to-none production on here. I love just about every beat on here. They are original and unpolished; which is something that is important with a great lyricist on the mic, otherwise you'd just get stuck on the beat and pay the rapper no mind. Which isn't the case for this album. The production is done very well.

Here is my individual track-by-track ratings.

01. "Intro" (N/A)
02. "The Hit" (A)
03. "The Good Die Young" (A+)
04. "Corner Bodega" (A+)
05. "Your Life's On The Line" (A+)
06. "That Ain't Gangsta" (B+)
07. "As The World Turns" (ft. Bun B. of UGK) (A+)
08. "Ghetto Qu'ran" (A+) (favorite)
09. "Da Repercussions" (A)
10. "Money By Any Means" (ft. Noreaga) (A+)
11. "Material Girl 2000" (A+)
12. "Thug Love" (ft. Destiny's Child) (A+)
13. "Slow Doe" (A)
14. "Gun Runner" (A-)
15. "You Ain't No Gangsta" (A+)
16. "Power Of The Dollar" (A+)
17. "I'm A Hustler" (ft. Jay-Z & Jadakiss) (A+)
18. "How To Robb" (ft. The Madd Rapper) (A+)

Keep in mind, if you're gonna purchase this, you're 99% more than likely to get a fake copy. Why? Because the album was scrapped before it was released, so there wasn't any official copies out on the streets. So be expecting a high-quality bootleg. No matter how "official" the seller tries to make it seem. Or you can just download it, whatever floats your boat. But buy a bootleg or download it, you need to do one or the other. For this album is worth every penny/megabyte. I recommend this to gangsta rap fans and east coast hip-hop fans. This should be right up your alley. Get it. Peace.

WOW no wonder EMINEM SIGNED HIM 5 Star Review
2007-10-18 - this is the greatest album ever, I never knew 50 possesed THAT MUCH LYRICAL TALENT. THIERS NOT A SINGLE TRACK I DISLIKE, I LIKE ALL OF EM ESPECIALLY THE GUN RUNNER TRACK THAT ONE IS FUNNY

What He Could Have & Should Have Been (Rating: 8 out of 10- -4.0 stars) 4 Star Review
2007-04-12 - If you heard, let alone own this album, consider yourself amongst one of the lucky ones, because it's a slim chance you'll ever hear 50 like this again. "Power Of The Dollar" is basically 50 Cent back when he was a nobody and before the fame went towards his head. This album was supposed to be released back in 2000 by Sony/Columbia Records, but due to heavy bootlegging, it was shelved. I'm not sure if it was released as an EP, but I have the full length album which is a total of 18 tracks.

On this album, 50 tells his stories of hustling and selling drugs. "Ghetto Qu'ran" is probably one of the album's best songs. "Life's On The Line" is another song that has a nice 50 Cent flow towards it. Most of the album's songs really shows 50's versitality as a lyricist, when he actually had rhymes. Don't expect any pop rap songs on here, because you won't find any on here. Just grimy street cuts, sort of like Mobb Deep type songs from the late 90's. Songs such as "You Ain't No Gangsta", "Gun Runners", and "Corner Bodega" are songs that have an up north street appeal. And the bonus track "How To Rob" appears on here, that really sparked a buzz for his name as he claims to rob every rapper in the industry.

Production is mostly done by Trackmasters. Only two guest appearances. Bun B appears on "As The World Turns. And Noreaga appears on "Make Money By Any Means", in which I find that track under skip material.

Even 50 sounds different vocally on this album. The reason being was because he haven't took those infamous nine bullets when he recorded this album. From what I understood, "Thug Love" with Beyonce was supposed to be the lead single from this album, but 50 was shot just a couple of days before the video shoot, but don't quote me on that.

This is no doubt 50 Cent's best album, and it sucks that it was never released. But it really didn't harm him, because he has a successful rap career (like him or not). 50 is a talented rapper, but unfortunately he utilizes it in the worst possible way. If he followed the formula on his later albums as he did on this one, he would probably have more credibility than he does now. You'll be suprised how much it shows when an artist is no longer hungry. As I said before, this isn't full of pop rap and songs for the radio (i.e. "In Da Club" & "Just A Little Bit"). This is something that the streets want to hear. If you were a fan of 50 before he blew up into whatever he is now and curious to hear how he was back when he was just another hungry rapper, you should listen to this. Personally I believe 50 should listen to this album, so he won't forget who he was before all of the fan fare. Maybe Sony/Columbia would think to release the full length album. Some of the songs already appeared on the "Guess Who's Back" album that was released in 2002. Peace!

By the way, I don't think this album is worth 90 bucks. You shouldn't pay no more than 30 for this max.
