Editorial Review:
R and B singer, talented actress, budding soul diva — by the age of 22, Aaliyah had accomplished more than most dream of, and seemed destined for superstardom. But on August 25, 2001, the dream died in a plane crash. Tim Footman tells the dramatic story of this precocious talent, from securing her first record deal at age 12, to nailing her first number-one hit at 15, to an early romantic involvement with her mentor, R and B producer R. Kelly. The book shows how she became a leading female vocalist, paving the way for other young performers like Destiny’s Child and Alicia Keys. The book also covers her brief acting career in such blockbusters as Romeo Must Die and Queen of the Damned. Dozens of color and black-and-white photos are included in this in-depth biography of the ill-fated princess of R and B.
Aaliyah Reviews:
A Book Filled With Love For Aaliyah!
2009-09-28 - Tim Footman's book about Aaliyah is an absolute fairy tale work of art. He put's glossy colored photos on the majority of the book along extremely detailed accounts on Aaliyah's life, dreams, and accomplishments both in his interpretation and in her own words quoted. From all the books I've read so far, each one offers something diverse. For me, this one is about enjoying the entire life of Aaliyah with more facts thoroughly researched, more insight regarding certain doubts, as well as true desire to portray Aaliyah as not just another music artist or superstar but as a ONE IN A MILLION icon!
The book is like a coffee table type large in size making it a fabulous collector's item. But the size doesn't alter the fact that it's filled with many unbelievable insights. There's album by album analysis including song by song descriptions and feedback. There's Aaliyah's movies and roles. Her quotes continuously displayed on the page complimenting the entire reading. There's the explanation of how she transitioned from R. Kelly to Timbaland and Missy [which was not explained on other books]. The beauty of the book is in it's wording. The author paints the picture quite extraordinarily. It's like a gravitating force to feel compelled to read more non-stop. It's not boring, tiring, nor distracting. He doesn't jump from one topic and skip. This author is organized, thorough, and focuses his entire book on only Aaliyah. Yes he does his comparisons and mentions other artists and groups but he doesn't loose sight of the true diva and the true heart and soul R&B Princess Aaliyah!
From start to finish it has exquisite details as if done by a painter, artist, or fashion designer. The glossy photos, classy touches, and contents are extremely unquestionably the best in reading that I've had in a while. Oddly, for some strange reason it ended up being the last book I read from all of them. Perhaps, it was a sign of some sort. Either way, it's to share my thoughts with fans, new viewers, and world the striking comparisons of all the different biographies and how this one in particular offers love, passion, and closeness in couture fashion. It's like the Sak's Fifth Avenue book of the others. Not to sound materialistic or superficial but to put true value and merit where it belongs, this book has the outer and inner contents that give Aaliyah the beauty she clearly portrays.
While each biography offers something meaningful this one just brings compliment and adds the missing parts of the others. And while the others may linger on some facts they may fill the gaps from this one. Each one of course connecting dots, and question marks and each one bringing a closer look into the most sought after beautiful loving down-to-earth legend, all time entertainer ever--the best in what she wanted to achieve, the highest in her aspirations and the most exalted in perfecting her dream! She had traveled a long journey down this earth to leave her mark, to act as an angel, and to later shine like a star from above! To forever bring through her music, articles, books, and movies that she achieved her dreams that even the most determined artists today have yet to achieve. For Aaliyah, if at first you don't succeed you try again. And apparently, from her Star Search fall she picked herself up and reached the top. To this day, her memory is alive, and celebrated. The world of R&B, pop, soul and other genres will keep her as the role model of generations and generations. She was pure, angelic, decent, but most of all talented. This book is just a stepping stone into the heart and soul of the much loved and adored Aaliyah.
Aaliyah by Tim Footman
2007-11-06 - New Aaliyah fans would find this book to be very informative. I really like the fact that the book contains fabulous, colorful, high quality pictures of Aaliyah. There are a lot of books that don't have pictures let alone colored pictures. The only thing that I didn't care for was how the author mentioned a great deal of information regarding people who were associated with Aaliyah. There's nothing wrong with giving a few facts about other people but not too much to the point where you end up going off topic. Overall the book is great and I definitely feel that every Aaliyah fan should purchase this book.
Aaliyah Review
2006-03-14 - I like this book because of all the pretty pictures that were inside, they were big and detailed. Sometimes the author would compare Aaliyah to other artist and sometimes get off topic. They just needed to focus on my girl only. THere is a picture of her and Dame in there when she is wearing a black dress and her nipple was showing. I dont like her exposed like that. But overall it was one of the best AALIYAH books I ever had.
Review for the "Aaliyah" Biography by Tim Footman By :Tee
2005-08-06 - Of all three biographies of Aaliyah that are out so far, I must say that this is the best one! Footman's book on Aaliyah's life is not only the first completely illustrated biography on her life to date, But the author was (unlike the other two writers, Farley and Kenyatta), is very detailed about her life and career. It pays tribute to the late entertainer in the loveliest way. Despite what the other reviewers claimed, I was never bored when I read this book. Most of the photographs of Aaliyah in this book are at least "8*10" in size, in full-color, and are very beautiful. They would make either lovely posters, or very nice screensavers,(If you can find these images of her on the internet.) There are also very nice pictures towards the end of the book of the murals on her billboard which promotes her last CD (in either N.Y. OR L.A.) and other murals/tributes that were created by her fans across the country after her passing. Her "Discography" and her short "Flimography" are also included. The author (Footman) at the end of the book puts it best when he simply says: "We may have lost Aaliyah, But at least we still have the music". To put it best, if you plan on buying a book about Aaliyah, This one is DEFINITELY worth buying. (Hopefully, one day, They'll make a movie about Aaliyah's life.) Until then,......WE LOVE YOU AND WE MISS YOU BABYGIRL.....MAY YOU REST IN ETERNAL PEACE!!!!!
