Unauthorized Yet Insightful!
2009-09-28 - This is an unauthorized film not having any music from Aaliyah, family member interviews, or performances. It is a Chrome Dreams Media 2004 release with Sian Jones narrating the entire documentary. There are a total of 10 chapters, a 15 question quiz, a discography, and an introduction of her Audio CD also by Chrome Dreams titled Maximum Aaliyah--all have a menu button to choose what to view. It's a look inside the most talked about R&B Pop Princesses of all times with a memory that lives on!

There are many very short clips of Aaliyah talking not lasting more than a few seconds one in which she states in the beginning of the film, how much the love and support of her fans and family mean so much to her as well as doing what she loves.

People in the film include: Jimmy Douglass/Mixer/Producer who spoke on each chapter rather extensively on his musical relationship with Aaliyah, her unique qualities, and how she impacted. He discusses how Aaliyah liked the track "I Care 4 U" who was originally written for other artists but Aaliyah tackled successfully. He mentioned Missy Elliott's writing and how Aaliyah and him would re-write some things. Then there was Christopher John Farley who has a book titled, Aaliyah : More Than a Woman. He spoke eloquently and gave many insights many are not aware of as he is very much into the writing. He is a Senior Writer for Time Magazine. He defines Aaliyah at one point as elegant and sang almost effortless. Also, was Charles Taylor a Contributing Writer who gave many opinions on each chapter too among one in which he states how the press was clueless to Aaliyah's impact at the time of her passing. All these commentators spoke on each of the 10 chapters.

Darren Lighty from D Life Music was a big part of the documentary describing how he had never met such a beautiful person with so much down-to-earth and humble qualities plus many more insights. Sam Chwat was presented as her Dialect Coach who helped Aaliyah change her accent for her movies. Kay Gee Divine Mill was also discussing his views with Darren quite frequently. They seemed like a team in and of themselves both very fond of Aaliyah. Timbaland, Static, and others were also lightly talked about. Her love for her boyfriend Damon Dash was talked about with a few photos in between.

This has Aaliyah's beginnings, movies, album releases and sales [very briefly] along with her impact, and opinions by all the guests. It was rather long, a bit tiring after a while since there was no interjections to breathe, and just a non-stop of people talking so much and so back and forth it was just not properly produced to give it the best. Unless you are a die-hard must have it all fan I would not recommend this for you. There's brief photos, brief clips of her talking, and no performances. Jeff Everest speaks of his song for Aaliyah titled, Hush for Aaliyah and talks a long while about it and sings --not my most memorable part since it was way too long.

Highlights were discussions on how Aaliyah has made her long lasting impressions on new artists like Beyonce and Alicia Keys. Mentioning of Missy Elliott, her brother who was very very close to her, and how her music business was family. Funeral clips with the 22 doves and presence of Diddy, Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, and Busta Rhymes were talked about. There's one part where Jay-Z is mentioned as remixing Aaliyah's song, "I Miss You" Miss You. Overall, this is for the intellectual who wants to make a book, write about her, or just hear a panel of people talking about her back and forth non-stop with a narrator who every now and then jumps in and a few photo clips and Aaliyah talks beep in. The chapters were brief and just glossed over unlike other documentaries. It's a pretty average video not the kind many would enjoy but that would kind of have to remember the way Aaliyah's life evolved, portrayed, and made it's mark--not the best documentary but certainly another stepping stone to getting closer!

Not good enough!
2004-12-24 - I honestly can say that this dvd doesn't worth buying, because it has nothing about Aaliyah actually. It's full of people talking about Aaliyah who weren't even close to her, but met her twice.. I find this dvd pretty borring and the quality isn't good enough for dvd.
The good thing about this dvd is that they show some rare cut-offs from Aaliyah's interviews, some pictures and clips from public appearances. But again, they don't show Aaliyah often, that's why this dvd is really borring..
But still it's a bit better than Loosing Aaliyah which was terrible and disrespectful, but still it doesn't worth of spending your money on it in my opinion.. I wish there was a real, good dvd about Aaliyah..

not worth watching twice
2004-06-28 - Being a big fan, I didn't really learn anything new from this DVD that I haven't already read about. The people interviewed were all producers, writers, coaches, and other industry people, but no one I had ever heard of. I wanted to see more footage of Aaliyah and learn more about different aspects of her life. The narrator was hugely annoying - she talked really slowly with a heavy accent. I couldn't sit still and watch because I was getting bored. It felt like this was just a big promotional video for the people interviewed and I did not feel at all satisfied after watching it!

Aaliyah Deserves A Better Tribute.....
2004-06-14 - Hi I bought So Much More Than A Rip Off..... sorry, So Much More Than A Woman DVD. Aaliyah looks great (as usual) the most annoying thing about this DVD is that its all revolved around her death, i'm not being funny but it should have concentrated on her life in a positive note. Note: on of the interviewee says "If Your Boy Only Knew" Which made me LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One again the money grabbers are back from Losing Aaliyah and just how do they inted to makie a good DVD about Aaliyah without her music, her music was her life, without it the DVD is incomplete.
HOWEVER on a more positive note where Aaliyah is featured in the DVD she looks stunning, espcially in the begining, she's just an amazing woman.
