Abba - In Concert 1979 Reviews:
Reflections for those NOT ABBA fans 5 Star Review
2009-12-15 - In my explorations of the popular music that was being played in the 60 some add years after the people I was seeing, Benny (Goodman), Tommy (Dorsey), Mildred (Bailey), Louis (Armstrong) and their confreres, I came upon Abba. Glancing at some of the reviews for this disc by those who Knew (know) them, I expect that you and I can pretty well ignore them. W can't say that this is representative or unrepresentative ABBA, that this is much more commercial than .......whom we have not yet heard or better than.... whom we have not heard either. Taking it only from my viewpoint, this is an excellent introduction to their music. I don't have much use for the documentary form to find out about musicians but I did not find it obtrusive here. The music? I would say anyone who has heard the Boswell Sisters or the Rhythm Boys would have no trouble enjoying the sound ABBA produces. No, I could not make out the lyrics most of the time, but they give me the feeling that with the right audio equipment I might, that is to say, they convey the feeling that they want me to hear the lyrics and are enunciating for me. Just a feeling. I suppose I would label this "middle of the road Rock" but with no awareness of the range of what exists on both sides of the road. So I commend it as a starting point for those who want to explore their work and the work of others generically associated with them.

Don't do it 1 Star Review
    2009-08-31 - Big disappointment......no concert format....broke up...incomplete ( I have a dream)
no good hits...alot missing. definitely 1 star.
GO FOR THE GOLD HITS. DVD. DON O.

    ABBA DVD 2 Star Review
2009-01-31 - The sound quality wasn't as good as it should have been. Not enough of their concerts. Too much filler.

For every ABBA fan 5 Star Review
2008-08-07 - My only complaint about the CD is the duration. Songs are incomplete and some just play in the background, like Eagle. A lot of footage showing the members preparing, rehearsing etc are shown. If only more songs had been recorded it would only have satisfied more discerning ABBA fans like me. ABBA is truly a great live act. They sold out Wembley on consecutive nights, something that even seasoned rock acts weren't capable of. I don't listen (or watch them) like I do with other bands but they have certainly stood the test of time as their fan base keeps growing even to this very day.

When I started listening to pop and rock in the early 80's ABBA was my favorite. Only The Beegees could make a better impression. The other band was Boney M that I stopped listening to in those early years but Lonely Planet, the travel authority mentions that Boney M is still played in pubs in some south-east asian countries. However ABBA is going to be remembered and listened to as long as pop lives.

Sound and picture quality are great on this DVD. I only wished it had lasted longer.

5 stars, inspite of the complaint.

Steve B's review 3 Star Review
2008-05-27 - Expected them to play more of their hits. The video spent more time on behind the scenes footage than the actual concert itself. It was also to short. The greatest hits DVD is much better.
