Sal and Rae must use every hilarious trick in the book to hide their mischievous pup, survive in the big city, and create the family of their dreams. Their charming story will touch your heart and make you howl!
Description of Chestnut:
Love is an essential ingredient in the recipe for a happy life, so when orphaned sisters Sal (Makenzie Vega) and Rae (Abigail Breslin, Little Miss Sunshine) find a puppy to love and a family that wants to adopt them both, it seems like the perfect beginning to the rest of their lives. Things become more complicated when the girls find out that their parents' apartment in New York doesn't allow dogs and their new father is allergic to animals. The girls sneak their Great Dane puppy Chestnut into their new home and thus begins a game of hide and seek that's sweet and funny, if not all that believable. The girls manage to keep their ever-growing dog a secret for quite some time, but a wedding reception gone wrong blows Chestnut's cover and threatens to tear the family apart. Can two girls' love for their dog and a couple of bungling crooks somehow reconcile this newly-formed family's differences and strengthen the bond between them? This sweet movie from the producers of Air Bud features an adorable dog, two precious girls, and a heartwarming and sometimes sad story about family and the power of love. Chestnut Reviews:
The cutest movie ever!!
2009-10-23 - This movie is darling!!! Warning for moms: it makes me cry every time! The sisters in the movie are adopted and they bring along a puppy that they have found. But they try to hide it...hilarious! The puppy grows up into a Great Dane! I have 3 girls and they all love it. My girls love dogs so they will watch this one over and over! A very sweet movie!
This movie is a gem
2009-09-09 - This a really heartwarming, cute movie about two sisters who are orphans at a chatholic school in New York state. Their names are Sal and Rae and they both find a Great Dane puppy one day and decide to keep it. Then they both get adopted and move to New York City to a posh apartment. They hide the dog from their new parents. The girls have lots of fun, playing with the dog and trying to keep him a secret and they go to school and run around and dress up in really cool clothes and dance and have fun and play with their puppy. The dad has dog allergies though and it's hard to keep the secret hidden. I love the music in the movie, especially "Sunshine and Rain" when the girls are taking the dog through Central Park and walking him. I love how sweet and cheerful and uplifting it is. It's a very postivie it is unlike so much trash out there today. I loved Abigail Breslin in it, the little sweetheart. She deserves that Oscar. Though the parents find out about the dog, Sal runs off with the Chestnut and hides in Central park. The police find her though and bring her home. She wants to keep Chestnut and her new family agrees. Then when Mr. Trundle's apartment building is broke into by crimanals the dog saves him and he is greatful. He lets the girls keep the dog and the dog is a hero. The movie has a happy ending, and it can very sad and sweet in places. I loved it. It's a fun family film. It's really got a lot of vaules and lessons to learn. I love Abby's other movies, "Family Plan," "Little Miss Sunshine," "Nim's Island," "The Ultimate gift," "Kit Kitterage," and "Raising Helen." I love this little actress. She is amazing. I love this film too.
great movie for 5-8 yr olds
2009-05-31 - my children love this movie! they are 4, 6 and 8.. they laugh out loud.. very sweet and wholesome show!
Perfect Family Fun!!!
2009-03-09 - My aunt let us borrow this movie, and I thought it was very good & very funny! Two sisters named Sal and Rae live at an orphanage and find a Great Dane puppy and sneak him back to the orphanage. When they are adopted, they sneak him into their new home. It becomes more difficult ehen he gets older. There was a little part I cried at, but don't worry, it doesn't have a 'Marley & Me' ending. If you love cute dog movies, you'll love CHESTNUT!!!
True meaning of unconditional love
2009-02-23 - This movie will be great for a nice evening with my dog loving niece! I couldn't believe the ideas these kids could come up with. So glad my dog is tiny!!! These parents really know their main job!!!
