Editorial Review:

Throughout their 35 years of recording, AC/DC has had several tracks that have appeared in a myriad of places besides their official studio albums. From singles to soundtracks to promo samplers, their stray songs have been sought after by fans and highly collectible. Now, for the first time, Backtracks collects 12 of the band’s studio rarities and 15 live rarities and presents them in full remastered form to take their place along side the rest of the band’s canon (pun intended…). Includes the highly sought-after “Cold Hearted Man,” “Rock In Peace” and “Borrowed Time”. Also features “Big Gun” – never before on any AC/DC album!

The third disc brings the million-selling Family Jewels franchise up to date, covering 1993’s “Big Gun” through 2009’s “Anything Goes”. Also included are rare alternate videos for 4 songs as well as the promo clips for the LIVE album AND the previously unreleased “Guns For Hire.”

Backtracks (2CD+DVD) Reviews:
Good collection. 4 Star Review
2009-12-20 - Backtracks is a very well put together box set of AC/DC's rare unreleased tracks. A lot of rare sets give you terrible quality but these rare tracks are all restored very well. There is an even mix between Brian Johnson & Bon Scott era's which is nice, a very nice collectors book jam packed with photo's, liner notes and great info. The only spot this set loses a star for me is the repackage of the "Family Jewels" DVD into this set which makes fans who already bought that DVD feel like chumps for having the best of it re-presented here making the dvd release obsolete.

Over all worth the money, great set, great quality, and sturdy collectors box.

vintage exellence 5 Star Review
2009-12-17 - Crabsody in blue? This is a great historical review of some seldom (or never) heard studio tracks, covering most of their lead singers over the years and a nice video to boot. Typically great grinding guitar work by the young brothers makes AC/DC a stand out hard rock band, and this is a lively and entertaining box that is worth every cent you pay for it. This is not just their greatest hits over and over again like so many other packages, there are classically humorous Bonn Scott pieces like "Crabsody in Blue" and Austrailian release versions of songs you probably will never hear anyplace else. Try it, you'll like it. At least I did.

Old Memories Revived 5 Star Review
2009-12-17 - Having recently seen AC/DC on the Black Ice tour (My 4th time seeing them since 88') this box set brought back many memories from the past. Any true fan should add this to their collection.

Where is the rest of the rare stuff? 4 Star Review
2009-12-17 - Finally AC/DC release some lesser known tracks!
Disc 1 - Studio rare tracks are excellent and a good addition to your collection.
Disc 2 - Live rare tracks is awesome and shows what the band do best, and capture
some of Brian's best live vocals ever (Largo '81 show - Unstopable!)
Disc 3 - Brings Family Jewels up to date with all the videos post 1991, which
was a bug bear of mine about the original Family Jewels. It does
include some bonus videos and makings of, which are funny.

First point, I Put The Finger On You (live Largo '81) is not on Family Jewels disc 3.
I have the audio of it and a copy of the video on an old vhs.
It is absolutely smoking, when are we gonna get that whole Largo show from 81?
What they have released on FAmily Jewels, Plug Me In & now Backtracks is balltearing!
However all hardcore fans have all this stuff, but I guess now we get good versions.
My problem is, where are all the other unreleased songs? Let It Loose, Alright Tonite, The Cock Crows?

AC/DC have way more unreleased stuff. 5 extra songs recorded for Flick Of The Switch,
Blow Up Your Video (although we already have three - Snake Eye, Down On The Borderline & Borrowed Time)
and there was also another five recorded for Stiff Upper Lip (which we already have Cyberspace).
I am sure there are more than that as well.

It is a bit half baked considering most of this has been available in Australia (Where I am from), as b-sides and original album tracks on their early albums (why cut them up for America anyway?). But I absolutely love back tracks, but it could of been ALOT better in a hardcore fans eyes!!! Seriously worth it's money though.

More to be Desired 3 Star Review
2009-12-14 - This is an attractive package, but with less substance than what first comes off. Many of tracks one can find elsewhere, including previously released special packages (Bonfire, the dvd with Brian's 1983 Detroit gig, etc.).

Aside from the cutting most of the Let There Be Rock (Largo, MD 12-21-1981) guitar solo, and replacing the live You Shook Me All Night Long (11-18-1983 Detroit, MI) with BIB studio vocals, this is an okay package.

I'm waiting for a real, completely new release of older material.

The one plus this set does have is that it finally includes a remastered version of a song from '85, and a good one too!
