Stiff Upper Lip Reviews:
You Can't Stop Rock n Roll~!
2008-10-16 - This Australian-Only Import is the one to get if you can. This Double-Disc CD includes 5 Live version songs from the shows in Madrid, Spain, and 3 videos of the singles. While we anxiously await the new release of "Black Ice", this album, recorded in 2000, was a simple and strait-forward return to the basics. "Stiff Upper Lip" has the trademark attitude and energy of the band as it moved into the new century. It must be noted that AC/DC has never 'experimented' or changed their image or sound to 'fit-in' with the latest music trends. For example,Metallica tried to go for a new image and sound twice- with disasterous results.
The Boys from down-under have always been honest to their fans. This album doesn't rock as hard or loud as their early 80's stuff, but that's ok. They have nothing to prove to anyone. Just plain hard rock without any gimmicks or tricks. AC/DC rocks!
Hands up who wants to rock
2004-12-12 - AC/DC deliver there trade mark song composing again in this brilliant Rock N Roll album. when the new millenium was upon us, Angus and Malcolm decided to release what other's wernt, a good straight simple Rock N Roll album. Going back to there inspiraation, you hear the Junior Wells influence in the Title track, and an approach they havent used iin year in the song House Of Jazz, prooving that even without Power Chords, AC/DC can still make a song rock. OF course songs like Safe In New York City and Satalite Blues are pure examples of AC/DC writing the best of the simple riffs that just knock your socks off. A couple of the songs like House Of Jazz and Cant Hold Me Back I did not like at first, but they are just like any other AC/DC song, give them time, and they grow on you!
The only downfall I have towards this album is that it is only about 40 minutes long! And on the TOUR edition, with the bonus disk, there is a song that didnt make the LP "Cyberspace" and it defnitly should have been included with the album, along with the other unreleased tracks from the same recording session of SUL, "Rave On", "Let It Go" & "Whistle Blower and the other one. So lets hope they get released some day, maybe when this title gets re-mastered in future?
I wouldnt recomend this album to anyone just getting into AC/DC, This album is more for the AC/DC fan really, it will depend on tastes of music to decifer wether you would like it or not, but it is a straight out rock n roll album, composed by the formulas The Young brothers are so great at doing.
ANd please note, that even tho Amazon has it written that is a live track, thats not correct, CYBERSPACE is a studio recording.
Rock On
