Editorial Review:
Adam Sandler and Kevin James star as best friends and fellow firefighters Chuck and Larry, the pride of their Brooklyn fire station. Chuck owes Larry for saving his life. Larry calls in that favor big-time by asking Chuck to pose as his "domestic partner" so his kids will get his pension. But when a fact-checking bureaucrat becomes suspicious, the two straight guys are forced to improvise as love-struck newlyweds. Jessica Biel, Ving Rhames and Dan Aykroyd co-star in this hilarious comedy.
Description of I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (Widescreen Edition):
It's crude and sometimes awkward, but there's a gleefully subversive movie lurking inside I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry. By virtue of a tooth-grinding contrivance, two manly Manhattan firefighters, Adam Sandler and Kevin James, must move in together and pretend to be gay; after seeing life from the other side, they learn something about tolerance. Sandler is the obnoxious, aggressively offensive womanizer, while James plays a widowed dad worried about his effeminate son. Nothing is too surprising about the way this works out, except for the film's unabashedly gay-rights fervor. It's one thing for a sensitive art-house movie to preach to the choir, and quite another for Sandler to speak to his multiplex audience on how uncool it is to use a homophobic slur. Ham-handedly directed and almost proudly sloppy, Chuck & Larry wins points for remaining defiantly rude; a nicer movie wouldn't have been as effective. There's a hilarious supporting performance by Ving Rhames, and Jessica Biel brings her Kim Novak-style glamour to a truly unbelievable character. Rob Schneider and Richard Chamberlain (two names not generally brought together) are amusing in small roles. --Robert Horton
I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (Widescreen Edition) Reviews:
Enjoyable and thought-provoking
2009-12-16 - I actually enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. Yes, there's some naughty humor in here, but this movie is also heart-warming and thought-provoking. These two actors made for a great couple. By this I mean an acting couple, not a married one. I'd like to see them work together in later movies.
The story is pretty straightforward, but there's a ;ot of funny twists to keep it entertaining. I particularly enjoyed Rob Schneider's cameo as the chapel owner and his humorous reaction to Chuck and Larry. The ending was also another special treat, and it was fun seeing Dan Aykroyd in this movie. Overall a solid 4/5 stars for a enjoyable and thought-provoking film.
"I now and forever more, DENOUNCE this sorry excuse for a movie."
2009-12-07 - Dear Amazonians, I've come this evening to discuss a heavily, lousy movie called "I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry". In terrible agony, I just want you all to know that this film is DEFINITELY not for me. It's too bad that the actors I know (Kevin James and Adam Sandler) were too busy goofing around alot to completely save it! What the hell was going on inside their heads? It's not like Kevin to let us down with 2 bad movies. No, I didn't like Paul Blart Mall Cop either, I'll save that fart riot for next time. Anyway, Kevin and Adam's characters Chuck and Larry are 2 dedicated firefighters. They rush towards every fire mishap and take care of the situation, then smile about it when it's over because they know their paychecks are looking good. Next thing you know, they almost came so close to Death's Door, they are rushed to the hospital, they recovered within days, and after that they got out, Larry had this incredibly, dumb idea that he suggested that the only way for them to share Chuck's mutual funds is to become Gay Partners! Hey, wait a minute, isn't this the same movie plot from "Strange Bedfellows"!? Yes? No? Oh, Okay, So, In order to make this lousy plan work to their advantage, they go and meet the beautiful and lovely Jessica Biel. While she's doing all the talking in her office, Chuck admires her smile and her fine booty, he is not playing this gay card correctly. Larry just wants to get down to business so they try so hard to play this out. And to my surprise, it blows up in their faces because it causes them to aurgue more, they're invaded by other gay males, Chuck can't stop seeing Jessica's character, nor can he stop touching her boobs(Lord, have mercy on her body, for it is the temple of God.) Ving Rhames reminises Holiday Heart again and their wedding was a complete embarrasment. Needless to say this gargantuan embarrassment to the comedy genre definitly needed to be ANULLED!
Chuck & Larry
2009-10-14 - What would you do to help your best friend well in chuck and larry you get married. this movie is awesome and funny as hell. i love kevin james and adam sandler. they are hillarious. this is a must see.
Comedy of comedy
2009-09-21 - This is a story of the mainly-man New York Fire Department employers having decided to somehow rip-off the States financially.
Probably, like in a case of the Australia-linked Strange Bed Fellows, producers' intentions were the best as comedy itself sometimes rather ostracized than provided any good for same gender affairs embedded from a notion of both legal and domestic ambiguity.
Anyway, it is much better than usual pif-paf kill-murder TV screening and advertisements instantly interrupting increased its broadcast by three hours which speaks itself of a film popularity supposed.
enjoyable
2009-07-28 - I try not to watch new movies because they are time wasters and most of them suck but this one was a pleasant suprise. I find myself laughing even on the 7th viewing. I even recommend this one to homophobes(like my dad). Funner if watched with a group of people.
