Editorial Review:
Has any film genre been more underrepresented than the animated Hanukkah holiday gross-out? This Adam Sandler vehicle (based very loosely on his loopy SNL fave "Chanukah Song," which gets yet another remake herein) may take its musical/comedic cues from South Park, throwing everything from alcoholism to incontinent reindeer into the mix--not to mention the eight songs on this brief soundtrack. But the results seem a looooong way from the satirical glories that Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Marc Shaiman evoked on Bigger, Longer and Uncut. Indeed, the overwrought songs (some credited to as many as five writers, including Sandler and fellow SNL alum Robert Smigel) here are often so far from Sandler's original goofy-guy-with-a-guitar musical ethos that they might seem alien to even the comedian's most faithful fans. The bonus material seems as generous as the musical selections are sparse, and includes three animated clips, screensavers, a message from Sandler, an NBA clip directed by the comedian, and a brief video of him celebrating the holiday with Meatball, his dog. If you think a yarmulke-wearing bulldog is the pinnacle of contemporary wit, this may just be the disc for you. --Jerry McCulley
Adam Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights Reviews:
Sandler's First Animated Movie
2005-12-06 - For those of you that think this movie is unfunny, you obviously haven't seen Adam Sandler's mind-numbing appearance in Punch Drunk Love. His character Barry Egan was so pathetic and boring. It is unmistakable that Adam Sandler is a comedian, so why would he try a romantic film?
Having said that, I think Eight Crazy Nights is hilariously funny, but this is not really a kid's movie, but more of a cartoon for adults. It is a nice holiday movie, Sandler's first animated movie, but hopefully not his last. It was also the first real movie to focus on the Jewish holiday of Hanukah. This movie I think is very underrated. The music, animation, and the added vocals of Alison Krauss for the singing voice of Jennifer was a nice touch.
Call This a Sandler Album AND a Soundtrack
2004-07-24 - This cd should be called another Sandler album, rather that just a soundtrack. Yes, it includes all of the songs from "8 Crazy Nights," so, in that sense it is a soundtrack... but all of the songs are written and performed by Adam Sandler. They do include other people, but so do songs from his other albums. So, in that sense it should also be called a Sandler album. Call it both... but anyway, this is a very good cd, short (only 8 songs), but the songs are great.
The most memorable songs include:
"Davey's Song"
"Technical Foul"
"Bum Biddy"
"Chanukah Song, Part 3"
Wether you collect Soundtracks from movies, or you collect Sandler albums, this cd deserves a spot in your collection.
AWESOME
2002-12-30 - This is what Adam Sandler was made for. He made one of the funniest movies of 2002. How does this man make up all these hilarious songs and do most of the chachter's in the movie. This is a wonderful CD packed with the great songs from the movie. I think it is well worth the 10 or so bucks to get and i promise you will laugh so much when listening to this. Adam is awesome!!!!!!!
Don't Bother
2002-12-15 - How many remakes of the "Chanukah Song" do we have to endure! I never liked the song in the first place simply because it really isn't funny. I only saw the movie because it was so overly promoted that I anticipated it would be something great, which it was not. Were the producers in a hurry to get this out for Chanukah? The Christophopic overtones is outragious and it simply was not funny!
best cd
2002-12-08 - i loved this cd, and the movie, i think, is the funniest movie this year! you gotta buy this cd! even if you didnt see the movie!
