Editorial Review:

Hollywood, California: three gruesome deaths within two weeks and every one of them a major star - an Oscar winner, an ingénue, and an action hero.  A serial killer is working through the Hollywood A-list and celebrities are running scared.

Each crime scene is worthy of a classic horror movie, and all three victims share a connection to the powerful scream queen, Ovsanna Moore.  The stunning and formidable Moore is the legendary head of a Hollywood studio, as well as the writer and star of seventeen blockbuster horror films (and a few that went straight to DVD).

She’s also a 500 year old vampyre… but this is Hollywood after all, and no one ever looks their age.

Beverly Hills Police Detective Peter King knows a lot about the City of Angels, but he certainly doesn’t know that most of the famous actors in town are actually an established network of vampires. Or that secretive and seductive Ovsanna Moore happens to be their CEO.

Moore and King may be from opposite sides of the Hollywood Hills, but both have something to gain by stopping the killer who the tabloids have dubbed the Cinema Slayer.  Ovsanna must protect her vampire legacy and her production schedule, while King just wants to keep his Beverly Hills beat as blood-free as possible.  But when the horror queen and the cop with the movie star looks form an unholy alliance, sparks fly and so do the creatures of the night.

Film, television and Broadway star Adrienne Barbeau and New York Times bestselling author Michael Scott have teamed up to deliver this sexy, scary, and deliciously clever novel full of Hollywood glamour, behind-the-scenes secrets, and the truly bloodthirsty reality of Tinseltown.  So grab some popcorn and some holy water and lose yourself in the high-stakes, back-stabbing world of the Vampyres of Hollywood.

Vampyres of Hollywood Reviews:
This was just FUN. 5 Star Review
2009-04-28 - I didn't have high expecttions for this book, but I picked it up because it's received pretty good ratings all over. I'm glad I did.

Folks, if you came to this book looking for "literature", you came to the wrong place. This is just fun, through and through. It's pretty gory; I'd describe it as less Stephen King and more Charlaine Harris (True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse), but the style is all their own. The characters were well-fleshed (no pun intended), the dialogue crisp and believable, the story inventive, and the writing tight and fast-paced.

Let me put it this way: the first thing I did when I finished it ten minutes ago was hit the web looking for news of a sequel. I didn't find any, but I'll keep an eye open.

Pretty bad 1 Star Review
2009-01-27 - Starts well, but then it is poorly written. The constant name dropping of famous characters is annoying, the situations risible, the attempts to describe historical facts really bad (like "something the moors designed in Spain 200 years ago"? hello? they were completely gone in 1492, make it more like 900 years ago), the characters are flat caricatures.... I am giving up on it.

More like 4 1/2 stars... 4 Star Review
2008-12-21 - A serial killer is stalking Hollywood's celebrities and Beverly Hills Detective Peter King is determined to solve the case. The crimes are vicious in their intensity and the only common link Peter can see is Ovsanna Moore, the Scream Queen of horror flicks and majority owner of Anticipation Studios. Ovsanna sees another link however: all of the dead celebrities are vampyres, ones created specifically by her. Who is slaying the VAMPYRES OF HOLLYWOOD?

Adrienne Barbeau and Michael Scott collaborate to create a stunning twist on an old theme. Vampires, or vampyres as they are called in VAMPYRES OF HOLLYWOOD, have been drastically overused in both the movies and novels. Adrienne Barbeau and Michael Scott use this to their full advantage, however. After all, what is more appropriate than to find there is actually a vampyre running Hollywood and that many actors/actresses are vampyres? Even better, the authors delve into the lore of old Hollywood as we see familiar actors and actresses, long past, in their current lives as vampyres.

The story alternates viewpoints, as it's told entirely in first person from the perspectives of both Ovsanna and Peter. The back and forth narration flows smoothly and gives the reader insight that each of the individual characters doesn't have. The concept is brilliant and works to perfection!

VAMPYRES OF HOLLYWOOD is not for the squeamish. From practically the first page, the brutality of the killings is described. The details aren't gratuitous but rather lead up to the clever and oh so surprising twist at the end of the tale. Many of the vampyre myths and legends are reexamined as Adrienne Barbeau and Michael Scott are a breath of fresh air to the genre. Let's just hope there are more novels forthcoming as the collaboration between these two authors definitely is a hit!

BCR 5 Star Review
2008-11-17 - I loved it, very faced paced, good horror and gore, I read alot, it was entertaining, great characters!

An extremely satisfying paranormal mystery thriller 5 Star Review
2008-10-31 - A serial killer is knocking off some of Hollywood's hottest celebrities in gruesome attacks worthy of a Hollywood horror set. Unfortunately, this is no set, and the slain celebrities all have one thing in common: their connection to scream queen and studio head, Ovsanna Moore.

Beverly Hills police detective Peter Moore is on the case. He has pieced together the clues which inevitably lead him to the sexy and seductive Ovsanna Moore. But what he doesn't know is that Ms. Moore is actually a 500-year-old vampyre, and the Chatelaine of Hollywood in charge of all the vampyres residing there: the Vampyres of Hollywood.

Despite her vampyre heritage, Ovsanna is actually one of the good guys, and very much wants to help Detective King and the BHPD find the killer that the tabloids have dubbed the Cinema Slayer. But can she do this while still keeping her true identity under cover?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, which I'd probably place in the mystery or thriller genre, even though it was light-hearted and funny at the same time, all while still being paranormal due to the inclusion of vampyres. The dialog was quick, snappy, and very action-oriented, which kept me reading into the wee hours of the morning. ;)

Another unique element was the use of two different first person point of views telling the story, such that one chapter would be told in the first person by Ovsanna, while the next was told by Peter. Though you might think this would get confusing, it didn't at all. Besides staying consistent in the switch between characters, each chapter heading was also denoted with either a gun or a set of fangs. (Cute, huh?)

The ending did get wrapped up rather quickly, though I wasn't necessarily disappointed by it either. Actually, my only real disappointment was that it was the end of the book.... and I wanted more! This was a great read and I'd certainly love to read more like this from Adrienne Barbeau and Michael Scott in the future.
