Description of Aerosmith's Greatest Hits:
Even before their second fling with the pop mainstream, Aerosmith were one of Top 40's favorite hard-rock bands, so ubiquitous--and so funky--that Run-D.M.C. were vociferous fans. Their '70s output included at least three classic albums (Aerosmith, Toys in the Attic, and Rocks). This disc collects unstoppable singles into a horny, howling little piece of archaeology that makes even weak links like "Kings and Queens" sound great. And the truly great stuff here--"Sweet Emotion," "Last Child," "Dream On"--runs the gamut of style and feeling from swaggering freak-flag-flying to power-ballad roots that display a genuine ache. Your Aerosmith collection shouldn't end here, but this red-and-white bomb is a great place to start. --Rickey Wright
Aerosmith's Greatest Hits Reviews:
Stop crying...
2009-07-15 - Look, Greatest Hits albums are inherently cash grabs by the record studios. I seem to recall a story where Joe Perry didn't even know this album existed until a fan shoved it in front of him to sign. That said, I'll always have a soft spot for Aerosmith's Greatest Hits, as it introduced me to the band (on cassette, no less) and it made me want to dive deeper into the catalog. Sure, the radio versions offered here are shorter -- once I bought "Toys in the Attic" I was shocked at "Sweet Emotion's" treatment here. But now that I've got the full version on a billion different comps and the original album, I'm actually pretty glad to have something different here.
Don't buy it.
2009-05-31 - The beginning of sweet emotion is missing. Its like the cd was copied without it.
For the money, it's a great buy
2008-07-23 - OK, so the songs are edited, but what do you expect for the price? You shouldn't pay more than $8 for this CD, and if you end up paying less then you got a great deal. If you're new to the band or if you want the very best of the early stuff then this is a great buy. You get all of their hits and even the last song "Remember (Walking In The Sand)" is not a bad song at all. Everyone reviewing this CD must remember that Columbia Records went for the radio hits and nothing more. Also, this CD was not approved by the band as they were fighting way too much to be involved in this project.
If you have all of the albums after Permanent Vacation, and would like to get familiar with their 70's stuff, then this is a nice introduction to their pre-1980's days.
Aerosmith-Greatest Hits
2008-07-12 - I was very pleased with the song selection of this cd. The sound was FANTASTIC!!!! I have greatly enjoyed listening to this cd many times.
Reasonable collection
2008-04-28 - I'm not a HUGE Aerosmith fan. Their best songs are here, but not all of these songs should be on a best-of. A bigger fan would give this a better rating, probably.
