Description of Get Your Wings:
While not quite as exemplary of the Boston quintet's '70s sound as Toys in the Attic or Rocks, Get Your Wings was impressive both in terms of its material and its measurable improvement over Aerosmith's debut. From the R&B inflected "Same Old Song and Dance" to the power-rock "Woman of the World" to the rollicking cover of "Train Kept a Rollin'," Wings showed the band solidifying their sound and really taking flight for the first time. --Genevieve Williams
Get Your Wings Reviews:
Lord of the Thighs
2009-12-10 - Their second album, this is one of those albums that can truly be said to have no bad songs on it. "Same Old Song and Dance," "S.O.S.," and "Lord of the Thighs" are built upon the great riffing of Perry and Tyler's wonderful perverse sense of lyrical humor. The cover song ("Train Kept A' Rollin'") may be the best cover song in all of rock and is certainly in the top five . "Spaced" is a well-titled number which is indicative of the era in which the album was released and "Seasons of Wither" is an interesting song, especially following the raucous "Train." "Pandora's Box" and "Woman of the World" again typify Tyler's sexual poetry and couple it with great rock melodies. A must have.
Aerosmith at thier best
2009-10-03 - This is the only Aerosmith record that I give a five star rating to. Not that they havent had some other fine lps, This one is strong from start to finish. It doesnt contain a lot of material on it by todays standards, but no filler at all here. how you say "no filler all killer"
Great sound
2009-08-19 - I love the sound on here compared with the original. This remaster has more solid bass. The overall sound is clearer. I highly recommend this cd if you are an Aerosmith fan.
Great rock n roll
2009-06-12 - For my money, this early effort is Aerosmith's finest record. Every song is a winner, but "Seasons of Wither" is one of the very best classic hard rock songs ever. The Aerosmith of the 70s was the epitome of arena rock and remains enjoyable even today.
Gritty Second Release
2009-04-14 - Their first album, "Aerosmith", received critical acclaim, but lacked the engineering quality necessary to capture the band's sound accurately. This release, produced by Jack Douglas, provides the a more intimate depiction, as Whitford and Perry's sounds are cleaner, showcasing their talent. The Brecker Brothers yacking saxes and horns add so much to the rock and roll classic sound, especially on "Same Old Song and Dance" and "Pandora's Box" a witty sexual lyrical play. Mood songs like "Spaced" allow a different view of the band's imagination and orchestration with an interesting use of effects on the introduction. The release contains a version of the Yardbirds' "Train Kept a Rollin'" which is still a staple of the band's live show. This version starts in the studio, and after the drum roll in the middle, segues into a live rave up version. Songs like "Lord of the Thighs" are perfect vehicles for Tyler's witty sexual word play. This is a quantum leap from the first Aerosmith release, allowing the boys more artistic license to show off their talents.
