Editorial Review:
Starring: SHAH RUKH KHAN, AISHWARYA RAI, MADHURI DIXIT
Synopsis: Devdas is the story of a love beyond all else, even life. The saga of a man called Devdas who loved, loved and just loved. Devdas shared a magnetic childhood with his lovely playmate Paro where supreme love was felt before it was understood. When youth beckoned, the loved intensified. But, alas, a fateful moment of weakness on the part of Devdas created a permanent wall of separation between him and his beloved Paro. On one side of the wall was a heartbroken Paro who became the wife of another. And on the other, was a completely shattered Devdas. Unable to bear the agony of a life without Paro, Devdas made alcohol his constant companion. But that could not make him forget the piercing pain. Even the unflinching devotion of a beautiful courtesan Chandramukhi, did not ease the heartache of losing Paro. It was only when his eyes closed to a permanent sleep, did the pain begin to fade. But even before losing the light of life, all Devdas urged was to see his Paro just once, thus giving his love the greatest dignity. It was at Paro's doorstep that the doors of heaven opened for Devdas. He left behind a testimony of true love that was pure, chaste, undemanding...and thus immortal. Indeed, love was his life... love makes him live on.

Devdas (2 Disc Set) Reviews:
Aweful copy!
2009-10-28 - My review is ONLY on the quality of the DVD itself. The picture is awful, no definition whatsoever, looks like a pirated copy.
Great delivery
2009-10-27 - I got it in the time estimated and it came in great condition. Loved the service! I hope to purchase more bollywood movies from this user.
poor quality
2009-10-26 - I'm sorry to say I both the dvd because of all the collourfull cloth and settings ,but the quality is better on Youtube HD than the dvd itself.
Way Different from what I thought
2009-08-22 - In fact, I didn't know what to think before viewing Devdas. After the first time of watching, I didn't know quite what to make of it and doubted I'd watch it again. The next day, I remembered it had some good songs so I watched those... and now I've seen it I don't know how many times. The music and the story really grew on me. I'm relatively new to Bollywood and let's just say I've grown accustomed to the feel-good-fluff. Devdas, however, is not. It may start out that way, but it's mainly a story about a man's ruination after he commits a wrong that will separate him and his love forever.
I won't say more about the plot. I felt that Shah Rukh Khan did a really great job of stepping into the impractical shoes of Devdas. I haven't seen a whole lot of him, other than Paheli, but I liked him contrary to complaints of his over-the-top acting style. Madhuri Dixit portrays tenderness and strong-will in her role of gold-hearted prostitute, Chaundramukhi. Some of her scenes absolutely break my heart in sadness or joy. I've seen a lot from Aishwarya Rai, and she can go either way in her movies. I like when she works with Sanjay Leela Bhansali because he gives her well-rounded roles that suit her coquettish personality. I first saw her in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam as the stubborn Nandini, and now she stars as Devdas's lost love, Paro. She shows range as, on one hand, she's full of youth and adorable charms, and the next she's a sophisticated yet stricken, miserable Choti-Ma. The scenes and songs are breathtaking. I think one of the few reasons I got through the films mounting sadness was because the sets and costumes were so beautiful and glowing.
Take in mind that Bollywood isn't for everyone, espcially Sanjay Leela Bhansali. I think he's a creative genius because he portrays emotion perfectly in his movies. They step outside the normal world to express actions and words we wouldn't normally do or say. The style is melodramatic and, if this isn't your cup of tea, then I'd stay away from mainstream Bollywood altogether. What I love about the style, however, is that even if it's beyond reality it touches my heart with it's personal truths and understanding. Growing up, I have always felt that I must show contempt for everything that is emotional because it's "lame." With movies like Devdas and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, just to name a few, I've had the opportunity to love something completely beyond my everyday world yet inexplicably familiar to me.
Celestial music. Breathtaking grandeur. A classic story
2009-08-11 - I am an Indian Classical Music afficianado, and I am madly in love with the music of the movie. The choreography will sweep you off your feet.
All credit for the movie goes to the female actors - in particular Madhuri - whose radiant beauty is matched by her brilliant acting.
Jackie Shroff is kind of a bore in this movie. And Shah Rukh Khan has the same look which he had in his first movie 'Darr' - he sure is the most overrated actor.
I havent read the original novel, so I am unsure of how true the movie is to the original script. Anyways, I thought the storyline was very cliched. I give this movie five starts for the dance and music, and ofcourse my long time crush Madhuri
