2009-07-14 - That Alanis "The Prophet" would take a hard 180 back to her pre-Jagged disco style and record a song written by another artist (regardless of how well the lyrics =do= reflect her own sentiments) speaks volumes.

Al works for Madonna, and it became clear from Ms. Ciccione's answers in an interview about her relationship with Alanis that Madonna wants her protege to sell more product. Al's facial expression in reponse to her boss's comment was understated but telling.

UPDATE ADDED LATER: Madonna sold her interest in Maverick to Warner in 2007 after prolonged litigation against them. How that will affect Alanis is anyone's guess. Madonna may have been as much a buffer as a presser.

Business =is= business, after all. And even though Al's albums go platinum like clockwork, none since Jagged Little Pill have gone platinum (what?) 40 times over.

The little hippie girl from Ottawa even gussed herself up (almost) "metallic" to perform this particular tune (and not one of her own) on the 2005 World Music Awards.

That performance, which can be seen on YouTube, =is= stunning, but it may well be the work of a pragmatic trooper rather than the most interpersonally sophisticated lyricist of our time.

Anyone who knows her work, knows Alanis is =nobody's= fool. If "Crazy" is a nice compromise with Maverick for the sake of allowing her to continue to speak to her flock, it makes perfect sense.

I, too, kind of wish Al would spend a little more time "packaging" her new material before she records it, rather than waiting to hear what her live band will (pretty typically) do with latest batch of tunes over the course of a tour or two.

Because, I, too (among millions of others), think that she has Something To Say in every single song she writes that the world would benefit greatly from hearing.

Al is the most effective spokesperson alive for the very evolved and mature view of life she has acquired from her studies. It is no surprise that she is "bigger" in other parts of the non-English-speaking world than she is in a country where Lady Gaga is the current big thang.

2008-12-24 - ...Without the Claude Le Gache mix! If this song doesn't get you moving, then the blood has ceased to flow in your veins. Alanis has an amazing remixable vocal that a great deal many synthesizers can harmonize quite well. I first heard this version of the song on the ThriveMix 02 disc and I just totally wigged out from the incredible beat of this remix, matched with ease and excellent timing of Alanis' vocals.
The Eddie Baez Coo Coo Club Mix begins with a quiet bang, entering trance territory first before segueing quickly into dance-club mode and then back again repeatedly. The up/down pulse of the beats is a little distracting for my tastes. It really could have stuck to one big pulsating beat and remained as enjoyable as the Le Gache cut, but it just never gets there for me.

Not the version you think it is
2007-10-30 - This is not the radio version with the 'normal' Alanis cover of the song Crazy. It's just a whole lot of mixes. If that's what you're after then cool. If not, there is another version of this single on amazon - that's the one that you want. Ordering this version can lead to huge disappointment, just beware.

Not what I was searching for
2007-08-07 - I was looking for the version which appears on the soundtrack of The Devil Wears Prada. This is NOT the right version. Remixes and club versions are not my thing, so unfortunately since Amazon did not have a "Listen to samples" on this listing, I bought blindly. Big disappointment if you are looking for the the version which got airplay. I'm off to buy the soundtrack to Prada now.
