Editorial Review:
As Tarzan and Jane's one-year marriage anniversary approaches, Jane searches the jungle for the perfect gift for Tarzan, enlisting the help of the hilarious Terk and Tantor. As they recall the many adventures they've shared so far, Jane realizes what an exciting year it's been in the jungle; from encounters with both old friend and new adversaries, to outsmarting prowling panthers to surfing the lava down an erupting volcano. But that's nothing compared to what Tarzan has in store for Jane--a surprise that will show her just how much he understands her world. All of the favorite characters from Disney's TARZAN are back, including Terk, Tantor and the Professor, in an action-packed tale full of surprises. TARZAN & JANE features irresistible new music, including a new duet of "Two Worlds" performed by Phil Collins and Mandy Moore. The wonderful new musical number "Singing To The Song Of Life" is also sung by Moore.
Description of Tarzan & Jane:
The couple's first anniversary of wedded jungle bliss is approaching and Jane ponders what gift would be appropriate--necessitating three flashbacks from the Disney television series explaining why various celebrations are out of the question. First Jane remembers when her old British school chums came to rescue her from the bush and whisk her back to civilization. Then Terk and Tantor help her recall the time diamond miners hired Tarzan only to double-cross him. The final remembrance features Jane's old neighbor Robert who flies to Africa to recover a music box he gave her--and to betray England. Michael T. Weiss and Olivia D'Abo do the honors as the voices of Tarzan and Jane, and Mandy Moore and Phil Collins provide the vocals for two new songs. Like many of Disney's straight-to-video "sequels," the animation and story aren't up to on par with the original,; but the kids won't care. Ages 3 and up. --Kimberly Heinrichs
Tarzan & Jane Reviews:
Lame
2009-11-08 - Tarzan & Jane is one hour and fifteen minutes long and was released direct to video on July 23, 2002. This is the follow-up movie to Tarzan and a rather poor follow-up. Basically the movie is a cut and paste job. The movie deals with Jane trying to figure out what to give Tarzan to celebrate their one year anniversary of marriage together. She talks with Terkina and Tantor, later on her father joins in on the discussion, and they all recall flashbacks on how things went wrong. The flashbacks are episodes taken from the television show The Legend of Tarzan. The three episodes are: "Tarzan and the British Invasion", "Tarzan and the Volcanic Diamond Mine" and "Tarzan and the Flying Ace". In the end Tarzan turns the tables on Jane by giving her a diamond wedding ring, a surprise party, and wearing his father's suit. The story is just a bunch of flashbacks with no real story line to it. Even the original actors did not return to do the sequel. Tarzan & Jane gets a D as in dud.
Kinda funny
2009-10-19 - Debated whether to buy on DVD as we had it on VHS, bought it because in the end, good overcomes evil.
Sad excuse.
2009-07-20 - This was a sad, sad film. This movie was given to me as a gift because I was so enamored with the original. Not only does this not stand up to the original, but it is just a poor film on it's own. The beauty of the animation is gone, the passion is missing, and the story is lack-luster. If you want to find out more about Tarzan, read the Tarzan of the Apes (Signet Classics) books. The first two are wonderful.
Great for young children
2007-09-08 - My son was a huge tarzan fan. When he was about 3 yrs old he watched this about a thousand times so we definately got our money's worth. For die-hard adult fans of the original Tarzan it may not rate well, but for young children looking for action and entertainment...this movie is 5 stars!
The worst movie ever made.
2006-03-19 - The title says it all. The first Tarzan movie was a work of art, however, this is a disgrace. They could have actually made an interesting plot with this, except they just threw it all away, adding in weird flashbacks and stuff, probably to direct you away from the lame plot. My eight-year-old cousin fell asleep in this, so I'm sure that I'm not the only one thinking the way I do. As far as Disney sequels that were only realeased on DVD and video go, I'd say the only one worth getting is The Lion King 1 1/2. That one was actually funny and had a plot.
I hope this review helped you save your well-earned money.
