Nelson Mandela's Favorite African Folktales Reviews:
An all-star narration cast...
2009-10-21 - An all-star narration cast helps bring to life Nobel Peace laureate Nelson Mandela's collection of short stories that create a patchwork of legends drawn from all over the African continent, In one story, the children of an East African village must destroy a beautiful and enchanting bird that has brought bad luck to the surrounding countryside. In one story, a brave girl frees a prince from the spell that made him a python. From [...]
What a Surprise!
2009-10-16 - I became aware of this book/cd listening to a radio promotion for it. My sister lives and works in South Africa within the AIDS support community, I thought she might enjoy the acknowledgement of her efforts. I bought two copies one for me, one for her. Turns out it is not yet available in ZA - so my sister will be able to use the US discs I sent to entertain and educate her HIV kids. What more can you ask for. Excellent narrative performances by Artists who truly care.
African folklore
2009-09-30 - This is a wonderful book filled with fables and tales for adults and children alike...well worth having as well as the companion, CD that shares the stories as told by famous voices.
A Beautiful Audio for a Wonderful cause
2009-09-13 - Nelson Mandela put together this amazing group of celebrities to read and help tell his favorite African Folktales with proceeds going to help AIDS/HIV children in South Africa. That makes it good enough for me. But add to that the fact that the folk tales are charming and so well presented, and you give a gift as much as you get a gift. Well worth it. I also gave it as gifts.
Delightful....
2009-08-27 - Nelson Mandela's Favorite African Folktale is a compilation of African folktales. These are stories that both children and adults will enjoy. The reader will recognize the names and voices of many of the readers which include : Gillian Anderson, Benjamin Bratt, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, Whoopi Goldberg, Sean Hayes, Samuel L. Jackson, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Debra Messing, Helen Mirren, Parminder Nagra, Sophie Okonedo, CCH Pounder, Alan Rickman, Jurnee Smollett, Charlize Theron, Blair Underwood, Forest Whitaker, and Alfre Woodard. The is a message from Desmond Tutu and music by Johnny Clegg and Vusi Mahlasela. The proceeds from this CD go to help AIDS/HIV children in South Africa. Whoopi Goldberg's voice brought her story to life. I found some of the stories much more compelling than others, but that is true with most books of short stories.
