    Description of Obsessed:
Obsessed is one of those movies best described as “a stylish thriller”: the characters are mostly young and gorgeous, with their white-collar gigs, designer duds, and fancy cars, and if there’s not much of substance to be found beneath those sleek, polished surfaces, well, who says a story must have a message to be entertaining? The comparisons to Fatal Attraction (with its jilted would-be lover going all psycho on the object of her, uh, affections) and Disclosure (with its reverse sexual harassment) are apt enough, but Obsessed is a little different. For starters, unlike the character played by Michael Douglas in Attraction, this film’s Derek Charles (Idris Elba) does little to encourage Lisa Sheridan (Ali Larter), the temp worker at his asset-management firm who gloms onto him like a lamprey sucking on its unwilling host; for another, Derek’s wife, Sharon (Beyonce Knowles), is no wallflower who stands idly and ignorantly by while her life is shredded by her hubby’s evasions and the increasingly crazed tactics of the woman who’s stalking him (it’s to the credit of director Steve Shill and screenwriter David Loughery that nothing whatsoever is made of the fact that Derek is black and Lisa is white). Still, the holes in the plot are big enough to drive several Mercedes sedans through. For one thing, Lisa’s fixation on Derek seems to come out of nowhere (if she has a past, we’re not told about it); what's more, even if Derek has broken his deal with Sharon not to have any female assistants (she was once one herself), it seems mighty extreme for her to kick him out of the house for three months simply for not coming completely clean about his mostly-innocent dealings with Lisa. Still, the film manages to make the viewer feel Derek’s helpless desperation at being targeted by this manipulative nut job, and when Sharon finally confronts her family’s tormentor at the end (“You think you’re crazy? I’ll show you crazy!”), the result is silly but somehow satisfying. --Sam Graham

    Obsessed Reviews:
Wishing that Beyonce would "bring it" : This and a list of other unanswered Christmas delimmas. 3 Star Review
2009-12-21 - something I learned from the movie - marry your secretary but be aware that any problems you have while looking at temps filling in that position will be viewed as your fault. Case in point, this film. Here we have a family man who is on his way up in the world ONLY to take a ride in an elevator with someone that is a bit bent. Before long, she has taken things to a really weird level, saying that he has been sending her flowers, making him CDs of his favorite bands, and actually coming off in a much better light than his wife.
    HOW AWFUL.

In this movie I felt bad for the husband, but not because of the way things were going with the obsessive part. It was the way that his wife reacted that frightened me, not to mention the things that he was doing to make certain that his wife believed him. In some ways this made me think of Beyonce and her part in the film, wondering how much that hindered the script. If, for example, she wer ento playing the role, would the husband have gone farther with things or have been less committed when she stopped listening? There was also the cting problem that was brought on by her and the male lead (it wa snot pretty), the supposed toughness that Beyonce throws out there when she finds herself wronged, and a million other little things thta hurt the film. Considering I was recommeded this with a "she's crazy," I expected more. I thought "a least a little more than Fatal Attraction." Sadly, it wasn't even in the ballpark.

If you want a movie with a crazy stalker in it, pick another one. There are some really good things like Audition out there for the hardcore fans, the throwback Fatals for the fan that wants to start out, and loads of other movies like this. Obsessed could have been more in that field if they would have gotten diffeent actors, been fearless, and would have worried less about appearance and more about defying convention. I guess that teaches me to not listen to my gut on this.
Buyer - be aware if nothing else.

Predictable, but not terrible (2.5 stars) 3 Star Review
2009-12-11 - I wasn't expecting much when I got Obsessed, but I always enjoy a good Fatal Attraction-type film. I was willing to give it a try. While Obsessed isn't nearly the thriller of the Glen Close/Michael Douglas movie, it isn't as terrible as it could have been.

The plot is predictable and it is unfortunate that they didn't at least TRY to make it stand out from similar films. There were some excellent opportunities to create "I didn't see that coming" moments - you know, the kind that make a film stick out, or become a must-buy for your DVD library. This movie was written closely to the formula - sort of like Harlequin novels; no deviation, no surprises. The end scene where the wife is finally facing off with the obsessive freak goes on WAY too long and runs into the ridiculous.

I always love Ali Larter as a psychopath and she really shines in this film - more so than the other actors. Beyonce Knowles was surprisingly good; I was expecting a lot worse.

That said, I still liked Obsessed. There was a certain deviant charm to it that resonated with the thriller genre lover inside. It isn't nearly as bad as other films I've seen this year, including the absolutely horrendous Sins of The Father. I rented it at one of those dollar kiosks and I would urge anyone else who wants to see it to do the same. You will be disappointed if you spend any more than that on it.

    A PG-13 "Fatal Attraction"...With A Plot Twist. Deliciously Satisfying. 5 Star Review
2009-11-25 - Beyonce (formerly of the hit group "Destiny's Child") stars with Idris Elba and Ali Larter ("Final Destination") in this PG-13 "Fatal Attraction" with a plot twist. I haven't seen "Fatal Attraction," so I can't compare the two. Ali Larter is simply temp-tacious and Beyonce is so "Bootylicious." The only complaint I have of this suspense thriller is scenes showing the father (Elba) caring for his son. In my opinion, that's gay. Other than that, I loved this movie. Very well-written and directed. David Loughery ("The Three Musketeers") has written a superb screenplay yet again. Rated PG-13, but should have been rated PG.

really, i've seen a lot of stupid movies, but this one really takes the prize! 1 Star Review
2009-11-22 - really, really, stupid story, bad acting, totally unbelievable story. can't believe they dare to bring this out. it's actually a joke. they try to be serious, but really, it's ridiculous, everything, the dialogues. this is a joke and a total waste of money.

    kinda disspaointed 2 Star Review
2009-11-06 - Just wanted to say, that I purchased a dvd claiming to be in good condition, and it isnt. The whole movie was fine but at the last 15 minutes of the movie the screen freezes..so you dont even know what happens at the end of it!! Not too happy with this... the next thing you know when the screen finally unfreezes you are watching credits.. Will not purchase anything else from this seller.
