Editorial Review:
Perky Sharon Spitz (voiced by Alicia Silverstone), is an ordinary teen with an extraordinary life… complicated further by braces that have a mind of their own. Watch how it all began, as Sharon sits down in the doctor’s office and gets the orthodontia that prompts her arch-rival Nina to dub her ‘Braceface.’ Will her nickname and new tin grin affect her chances with Alden? Could her friend Connor be a good boyfriend option? Will her curiosity over Maria’s private diary put a permanent dent in their friendship?
No matter what you’re going through, or what questions you have, Sharon has SO been there! Braces not required…
Description of Braceface: Brace Yourself - Volume 1:
"Braces are so everywhere," but that doesn't ease the tinsel-teeth trauma for 14-year-old Sharon Spitz, leading character of Braceface, the award-winning, animated comedy featuring the voice of Alicia Silverstone (Clueless). This Canadian import provides a fresh and witty perspective on the perils of adolescence, with clever writing that steers clear of clichés and condescension. The trio of episodes in this 75-minute program begins with Sharon's story of her visit to the orthodontist ("Brace Yourself") and how a mouthful of metal begins a series of mysterious and embarrassing blunders that wreak havoc on high school life, and especially her chances with Alden. The second episode explores Sharon's confusion over a newfound romantic interest in her endearing childhood friend, Connor. Finally, Sharon's secret peek into Maria's diary results in some necessary soul-searching. The messages are perfectly suited to preteens and young teens: though growing up is complicated, family and friends go a long way toward mending mishaps. (Ages 7 to 14) --Lynn Gibson
Braceface: Brace Yourself - Volume 1 Reviews:
braceface
2008-04-10 - my daughter loves this movie. we are pleased with this and the quality of the product and that the seller delivered as promised
Amazing Show!
2005-06-27 - Whoever wrote the review giving the show one star is so very very wrong. THIS IS NOT A LITTLE KIDS SHOW OKAY? I mean it deals with teenage things. By now you should know the little kids shows come on in the morning not around 4:30 or whatever.
And um, how would you feel if all your friends had had boyfriends and been kissed before you? This show has not done anything at all to my brain. I can type, write and everything everyone can do. Okay this is a great show for early teens and late teens. Anyone younger shouldn't watch it. Oh, I watch shows and movies with swearing, and guess what? I don't swear.
I think anyone who loves Kim Possible, That's So Raven would love this show.

One of the Best Cartoons Today
2004-11-12 - Braceface is one of the better cartoons around. In a day and age of non-stop action cartoons and children's wacky cartoons, Braceface offers a refreshing real-life plot with real life situations and problems. It offers the viewers life-lessons without being corny or over-educational. It really does a great job of portraying the awkwardness of teenage life without being a dark, "life is terrible" attitude. Truely one of the greater cartoons in existance.
Cool extras too!
2004-06-22 - I've been waiting for this to come out for what seems like forever. But I was pleasantly surprised when the extras turned out to be pretty cool too. The personality test really fun and is pretty much dead on. (I'm Maria) There's this interview with Sharon that answered a few questions for me. Character profiles are pretty standard, but are nice to have in my collection. All in all, I'd say this is a must get for anyone who likes Braceface.
A neat series!
2004-03-11 - This review is just an in-general one (as, of course, the DVD hasn't come out yet). Wanted to comment that I enjoyed this series when it was on Fox Family (now ABC Family) Channel, would watch it every day and was bummed when it got taken off. So am glad that it's being released on DVD.
Have read the episodes to be on this DVD are the first three from the show - "Brace Yourself", "Crushed" and "5 Things That Really Bug Me About You".
