Editorial Review:
This two-CD, 25-song set, recorded in Louisville on two nights in the spring of 2002, finds bluegrass's most celebrated crossover band at the top of its game. Krauss's warm, feathery vocals, capable of conveying complex emotions in a single note, appear more full-bodied than in studio recordings, yet lose none of their sensual appeal or dramatic tension. She's perfect, for example, as the melancholy temptress on "Let Me Touch You for Awhile," coming across as both savior and seductress, while Jerry Douglas's Dobro echoes the searing strains of passion and pain. With banjoist-guitarist Ron Block, bassist Barry Bales, and guest drummer Larry Atamanuik anchoring the rhythm, the ensemble deftly blends bluegrass with jazz, rock, and folk, combining lightning speed (though rushing through "Forget About It") with sophisticated chops, tangible emotion, and thrilling vocal blends. The crowd, more spellbound with every note, doesn't even breathe on "Ghost in This House" and nearly tears the place down on Dan Tyminski's voice-of-George Clooney showcase, "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow." But who could blame them? It's only one highlight on an album of uncommon artistry, a moving testament to how good live music can be in the hands of world-class players. --Alanna Nash
Alison Krauss & Union Station - Live Reviews:
Don't miss This CD
2009-11-08 - I haven't heard much of Alison Krauss before but this CD gave me the impuls to
look for more CDs to enjoy listening to. She is worth it! Believe me!
Alison Krauss & Union Station - Live
2009-10-24 - It was easy for me to find this item on Amazon.
The price was good, straightforward to order, and arrived
in a matter of days.
I am happy with the purchase, as Allison Krauss is one my favourite artists,
and the 'live' CD contained all her best hits. The Amazon site was a
very helpful guide for me to purchase the right item.
Alison Krauss and the Union Station.
2009-08-17 - What a good value double CD this is. An excellent group of musicians and a wide variety of songs and instrumentals. It is everything I hoped for in a live session recording and the quality of the recording is studio standard. Alison Krauss shows her versatility with songs of varying tempo and mood and the Union station accompanies her, matching the mood of the songs. Their instrumentals are great, and the dobro player is outstanding.
If you like Alison Krauss. . . .and I Do!
2009-06-03 - I bought this album solely for the song, "Down to the River to Pray," which Alison Krauss sings acapella. It is haunting and inspiring at the same time. The other songs on the album are great, too. Alison Krauss's crystal clear voice is one of a kind and this album with the audience response of the "live" performance make it a great bluegrass album.
Bluegrass, Newgrass, Great stuff
2009-05-14 - This two CD live performance is excellent in every way. Perfectly recorded and performed, it includes many of the songs the band is best known for. As usual, Alison's voice is angelic. Jerry Douglas plays licks on the dobro that are impossible. Great vocals and harmonies from Dan and Ron. A solid rhythm section, both with and without drums.
Thw two songs from Oh, Brother Where Art Thou?, Man of Constant Sorrow and Down to the River To Pray are terrific. Two old pop covers also - Baby, Now That I Found You and But You Know I Love You.
Highly recommended.
