  • Editorial Review:
Shania Twain's Up! Close and Personal concert is both a follow-up to her bestselling 2002 album and an intimate show featuring Alison Krauss and Union Station. It's hard to imagine two superstars in the same general style being as different as Twain and Krauss, and it's surreal to see the latter singing backup on "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under," but the combination works. Up! featured both pop and country versions of its 19 songs, and while the intent here is to favor the country approach, the bluegrass sound of AKUS is more listenable than the album's twang and pedal steel, and "From This Moment On" could almost be mistaken for a Krauss song. It's still Twain's show all the way, though, as she sings lead for every song, including "I'm Gonna Getcha Good," "You're Still the One," and a cover of "You Shook Me All Night Long," which her husband Mutt Lange produced for AC/DC many moons ago. Dressed in relatively conservative black leather (!) and forgoing the aerobics, step dancers, and other pyrotechnics of older shows, Twain is personable and chatty with the audience that surrounds the stage (though no one is invited up), so much so that she can only get through 12 songs in the hourlong show. A 25-minute behind-the-scenes featurette helps fill out the disc. --David Horiuchi

Shania Twain - Up Close and Personal Reviews:
A wonderful mix of talents 5 Star Review
2008-09-01 - We all know all greatness of Shania. We all know how cool Alison Krauss and Union Station are. This meshing of these two artists is a creation of delight. The tight vocals with Alison and co. blend so well with Shania. If you are looking for something a little different, get this, and sit back and enjoy! This show is really cool.

Have seen better 2 Star Review
2008-08-30 - I like very much Shania Twain - but after having seen Live from Chicargo, this video does not deliver the action of Shania Twain

Man! It feels like Shania! 5 Star Review
2008-06-07 - What a great DVD to add to your collection of everything Shania! This is a great Shania Twain concert with Alison Krauss and Union Station backing her up. The sound is cozy and intimate -- you really get to hear Shania's voice. She gave up her big concert extravaganza for this one...and you won't be disappointed. The concert is one hour and the sound is terrific.

An amazing concert, but far too short! 5 Star Review
2008-04-02 - I've never really loved country music, no matter how great the songwriting -- enter Alison Krauss and Union Station whose delivery and arrangements slowly sucked me in. I bought this DVD solely for them and I'm amazed at how effortlessly they provide the accompaniment and backing vocals to some of Shania Twain's greatest hits (definitely not their usual bluegrass, but it works beautifully). This concert is wonderful and I wish there was a CD to it as well so I could play it in the car.

Shania is breathtaking here in this DVD! 5 Star Review
2008-03-20 - Finally got my hand on this DVD (got to order from Amazon and shipped it over to KL, Malaysia). And boy am I glad to say that I am a proud owner of this DVD. So use to seeing her in big concerts (I have Chicago and Live DVDs), this is a welcome change. I love the interviews in this video which the other DVDs don't. But most of all, I just love her performance here. Though at times I thought she sounds like she was having a running nose, she just don't stop giving her best to her fans. Simply beautiful :)
