Description of Sydney White (Widescreen Edition):
Entering College is a time of great transition, but Sydney White (Amanda Bynes) is secure in her plan to follow in her late-mother's footsteps and pledge Kappa Phi Nu sorority when she arrives at Southern Atlantic University. Raised by a plumber father and a host of other construction workers, the comic book collection toting Sydney is definitely her own unique person and has some decidedly tomboy tendencies that contrast starkly with the ditzy, superficial girls she meets at her first sorority function. Sorority leader and student council president Rachel (Sara Paxton) takes an instant dislike to Sydney and vows to make her rushing experience intolerable. Only Tyler (Mat Long), a member of one of the campus fraternities, seems to see and appreciate the real Sydney. After weeks of hazing abuse, Rachel declares Sydney unfit to join the sorority and a despondent Sydney joins seven misfit boys in a soon-to-be-condemned house on Greek Row known as the Vortex. Fueled by the desire for revenge and a newly discovered sense of respect and belonging thanks to her new roommates, Sydney decides to fight back against the snobbery of the Greek elite and champion the rights of all misfits on campus by running against Rachel for Student Council President. By rallying the support of interest groups and misfits campus-wide, it appears that Sydney might just have a chance of winning. This film begins with an almost gag-inducing portrayal of sorority snobbery at its worst and soon gives way to a hysterically comic look at the under-representation of the masses in collegiate society. The satirical parallel to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is heavy (this is the story of "Sydney White and the Seven Dorks" complete with Sneezy, Sleepy, and Doc) and the portrayal of interest groups on college campuses is farcical to the extreme. All in all, Sydney White is hysterically funny and surprisingly appealing to audiences of both genders and a wide age range. Rated PG-13 for some language, sexual humor, and partying. --Tami Horiuchi

Revamping Snow White
2008-08-17 - Combine Snow White, Animal House and Revenge of The Nerds and you have Syndey White.
This modern retelling fairytale of Snow White. It follows a beautiful college freshman Syndey White (played by Amanda Bynes) as she pledges her late mother's sorority. But after discovering that today's sisterhood is not what it used to be, Sydney makes new home away from home with seven nerdy outcasts. With the help of her new friends, Sydney will take on Rachel, the reigning campus queen (Sara Paxton) to attempt to transform the school's misguided social hierarchy
Bynes is great with her cheerleading style. The film is a cute send up with a Revenge of the Nerds twist.
It is cute for an evening entertainment

NOTHING NEW, BUT ENJOYABLE ROMANTIC COMEDY!
2008-08-10 - I watched this film with an open mind, because Amanda Bynes while appealing still relies too much on rolling her baby blues instead of her acting chops. This is a mildly funny film with some help from some quirky characters. The theme loosely follows Snow White and the 7 Dwarves, but I'll be damned if I could tell what dwarves they were supposed to be. Sleepy was easy enough, but Dopey/Happy?, Doc/Sneezy?, Grumpy/Bashful? seamed to all have little traits of each dwarf, this probably worked for the better and gave it a fresher feel. Bynes is a cutie pie and I'm sure she will mature in her acting as she matures in life. It's not a bad film and it was easy to watch.
Lots of Laughs
2008-08-06 - Much like any Amanda Bynes movie, don't go in expecting any Oscar-worthy performances. But what I love about her is that she ALWAYS makes me laugh, and it is pretty hard not to like her in anything she's in.
Sydney White is no exception...the updated take on the classic Snow White is very cute and charming. The title character is a sweet and unassuming tomboy going off to college with plans to pledge her late mother's sorority. But upon encountering the "evil" Rachel WITCHburn, falling for the charming Tyler PRINCE, and meeting seven fabulous dorks (not to be confused with dwarfs. :-) ), she begins to wonder if sorority life is all it's cracked up to be. Along the way, there are some hilarious, laugh-out-loud moments, especially when the seven dorks are involved.
So, although a bit cheesy, if you're looking for something light and funny, this is the perfect movie! Enjoy!
Great message!
2008-07-17 - I loved this movie! It sends a great message to young women about being yourself!
Not What I Expected
2008-07-10 - I bought this movie because employees can buy our old rentals for less than $5. I wanted to see it and you can rent movies for more than that some places. I figured that it would suck. I figured it would be pathetic and I'd hate it. I mean, it has Amanda Byrnes in it. Had to be bad. I was pleasantly surprised. I liked this movie. Even though I expected the ending and even though it was a real chick flick (Chicks don't always care for chick flicks. Myself as example) I still liked this. My sister and I had a grand ole time figuring out which dork went with which dwarf. Some were easy. Some were more subtle. Better than it looks.
