Editorial Review:
2009 release from the multiple award-winning, platinum-selling R&B singer and songwriter. In Love & War is her fourth album overall and her first for Def Jam Records. The album features an all star team of producers and collaborators. 'Why R U' was produced by the Buchanans, who were among the roster of producers that worked with Amerie on her last two albums, Touch (2005) and Because I Love It (2007). In addition to the Buchanans, other producers who worked on the sessions include Teddy Riley, Sean Garrett & Eric Hudson, and Jim Johnson & Rico Love. Features the single 'Heard 'Em All'.

In Love & War Reviews:
In Love & War 4 Star Review
2009-12-22 - I've been a huge Amerie fan since the release of her sparkling debut single, WHY DON'T WE FALL IN LOVE followed by her enjoyable album, ALL I HAVE. Right from the start she struck me as a very smart, determined & talented young woman who wanted to be successful without playing the industry games that "hot" female artists nowadays play to get attention - she didn't pander to the paparazzi, kept her private life private and worked hard at getting a foothold in the entertainment industry. Unfortunately she's gotten locked into some major battles with both of her labels and experienced delays in having her albums released so while the 1st single (1 THING) off of her sophomore album, TOUCH, was huge; by the time the album was finally released nobody was really checking for it like they would've had it been released while the single was hot. I thought it was a successful follow-up that showed clear progression in her music.

After another time lapse, rumored troubles with the label and numerous "push backs", Amerie's 3rd album, BECAUSE I LOVE IT, was finally released overseas and with a hefty $45 import price and absolutely zero promotion by her label it flopped. Sadly this album is her best all-around & displays different genres of music that Amerie rocked so much so that another female artist (who shall remain nameless) quickly copied this idea and while her album is getting acclaim for being a successful risk-taking endeavor, Amerie's was ignored.

Now onto her current release, IN LOVE & WAR - it's a good album on which I think Amerie was content to stay in her lane so to speak. It's a collection that includes songs with the trademark Amerie fevered vocals over unexpected musical arrangements, a few mid-tempo tracks and a few ballads. Overall I enjoy the collection and was sad that neither of her 2 singles released: HEARD EM ALL & WHY R U caught fire with the public. The other tracks that I truly enjoy are: DANGEROUS, HIGHER - a rock inspired track that is urgently energetic; RED EYE - slow grinder that I hope gets a single release; THE FLOWERS - in interviews she was really proud of having written this track so I couldn't wait to hear it and although it's a little long, I love the sentiment of the lyrics; YOU'RE A STAR (interlude) - wish it was a single and MORE THAN LOVE f/ Fabolous - I like the fact that the rapper doesn't overshadow the singer.

SWAG BACK is an ok track that's growing on me moreso for the lyrics; DIFFERENT PEOPLE & DEAR JOHN - are fillers to me neither made a real positive or negative impression on me and lastly I really dislike PRETTY BROWN f/ Trey Songz - I find it a lazy uninspired reworking of a classic song.

As a fan I dig her personality and original vocal stylings but have to concede that at this point Amerie is one of those female artists who for one reason or another just don't "click" with the public at large (I'm thinking Tamia & Debra Cox as other examples) so unless she has a huge cross-over hit, her projects are sadly ignored. I did enjoy enough of this album to highly recommend it to her fan base and hope that others sample tracks to maybe rediscover this underrated artist.

NICE 4 Star Review
2009-12-21 - I LIKE THIS CD. I DID NOT BUY IT BUT I LISTEN TO IT AND I WISHED THAT I DID.

Love&War is... 3 Star Review
2009-12-20 - This cd is ok.I love Amerie and I am a big fan but after listening several times I just couldn't get into it like I wanted to.Pretty Brown is so great I love the fact that she has Trey Songz on it,its a sure hit!I also like Different People its a very touchy as well as true song. There are a few other songs that are just o.k but thats not good enough. In my OPINION its ok to go outside the box a little but know your limitations ok but not her best work.

Reconize 4 Star Review
2009-12-20 - One would hope this young woman will be recognized for the entertainment she is putting out.
It took some listening to however; the new album is catching on. Yes, even my little girl has my PSP upstairs listening to Amerie's new music. Keep Growing Girl!

Amerie "In Love & War" 5 Star Review
2009-12-18 - On Amerie's fourth studio effort "In Love & War", she blossoms from a featherweight to a true heavyweight of R&B music. I've been a true fan of all her work ever since I first saw her beautiful video for "Why Don't We Fall In Love" back in Summer 2002.

Tell Me U Love Me (8/10)- Fierce! Amerie is raw and aggressive on this record, and I love it. She shines over this Teddy Riley production.

Heard 'Em All (8/10)- This song had to grow on me at first. I do enjoy it now, as Amerie sounds beautiful on it. From the start I liked the tribal feel it had to it, but I didn't see it as being worthy of being a potential single. Eric Hudson and Sean "The Pen" Garrett wrote and produced this track.

Dangerous (8/10)- I like this record. It has a rock feel to it similiar to her single "Higher". The problem I have with this record is that it's too short.

Higher (9/10)- Brilliant. The lyrics to this song are dope and I love the rock vibe. I love how Amerie encompasses different genres of music into her musical style. Again, too short in length.

Why R U (10/10)- I LOVE IT! Classic Amerie. This may very well be one of her best songs ever and by far my favorite. I love the video to it and I love the beat.

Pretty Brown (10/10)- This is another favorite of mine. Trey Songz and Ms. Amerie sound very melodic together. I love how they vibe back and forth at the end of the track.

More Than Love (9/10)- Solid. I could see this track being a potential single. I love the lyrics and the concept behind it, and Fab's rap is another plus.

Swag Back (10/10)- Unstoppable lyrics. This needs to be a single. Amerie is fierce in this one. She definitely has undeniable swag.

You're A Star (9/10)- I love it. Would be even better if it were a full song.

Red Eye (8/10)- I like this. It has a laid back kick it and chill vibe to it when you're spending time with your significant other.

The Flowers (0/10)- I'm really not a fan of this song. It's boring and too long for me.

Different People (7/10)- I do like this song, but it's not a favorite of mine.

Dear John (0/10)- I don't like this song at all either.

Heard 'Em All (Remix) (6/10)- Decent. I like Lil' Wayne's verse but it brings nothing to the track. I wish the "Why R U Remix" would have been included instead, or the track Amerie recorded titled "Love & War."

I love Amerie. I think of myself as one of her biggest supporters. I was very pleased with this album. The only complaint I have is with the promotion from her label. Amerie should be going places. She's beautiful, she's talented, she writes her own material, her voice is unique and distinct from other females of R&B music, the list goes on. I almost wonder if Columbia Records was a better choice than Def Jam, because all their funds obviously go to support Rihanna's new record "Rated R." Not that I don't love Rihanna because I do, I just wanna see more for Amerie. Her first week sales were disappointing, and she has had no success on any chart with any of these records this year or for a very long time. "Why R U" was a moderate success on the R&B charts, but fell off quickly.
