A contemporary New York comedy about Isabella "Izzy" Grossman, a single independent woman who is caught in a romantic quandary when her grandmother hires a Jewish matchmaker to find her a husband.

    Description of Crossing Delancey:
A sweet tempered urban love story, Crossing Delancey argues that true love may be in the first place you look. Amy Irving is a single Jewish woman working at an upscale bookstore on the Upper West Side of New York. As much as she longs to be a part of the intellectual literary scene, she is tethered to her roots on the Lower East Side, where her old-fashioned grandmother is forever trying to fix her up. Irving has her eye on a handsome brooding author, but her grandmother enlists the help of a local matchmaker to fix her up with Peter Riegert, a quiet Jewish man who runs a pickle stand in the neighborhood. Soon she must decide what it is she really wants out of life and what love really means to her. Though a very traditional love story, Crossing Delancey has its moments of soul searching drama and an unlikely romance. --Robert Lane

    Crossing Delancey Reviews:
    Crossing Delancey 4 Star Review
2009-12-28 - A modern day love story to be sure. You've got to love the Bubby, the matchmaker and the nice pickle man. Nice guys do finish last when women finally realize that they deserve somebody nice...

First rate movie. 5 Star Review
2009-11-30 - A love story that transcends time. I fell in love myself - with all the characters. Being originally from Long Island, I can recall the Jewish humor and laughed out loud. I was so caught up in the movie, the time passed way too quickly. When it ended, I actually heard myself say "oh no, not yet". It left me wanting to know more, watch the ralationships grow.

Love this movie so glad it's finally on DVD 5 Star Review
2009-07-19 - Have had a battered second-hand VHS version for years ever since I rented it and loved the movie, and had to find a copy for myself. Love the story and its messages. The only part of the plot that slightly jars is that Izzy initially set up a friend to go out with Sam, but then the friend got dumped by Sam after a rained-out game when he met up with Izzy instead, the plot doesn't deal with that impact to Izzy's friendship. Also the characters can be a little 2-dimensional at times. Otherwise brilliant movie and love the fact i have it now! :-)

BOOKS, PICKLES, LOVE - We should be so lucky! 5 Star Review
2009-07-15 - One of my all time favorite movies. Its unlike any other romantic comedy.

An independent bookstore manager is "courted" by a pickle seller who was introduced by a Jewish matchmaker that was hired by the bookstore managers Grandmother. NEED I SAY MORE?

Amy Irving "Izzy" is a "bookie" who is close to her independent Jewish Grandmother. Her Bubbie hires a Jewish Matchmaker to find her a husband. The candidate played by Peter Riegert, sells pickles but Izzy isn't buying. A modern woman, Izzy rebels against the archaic ritual and vehemently resists. She is infatuated with an author and the pickle man does not fit the bill.

But as the saying goes, NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER! Izzy finds love while Crossing Delancey and its not to go to the bookstore! Pickles anyone?

Great cast, wonderful acting, refreshing and endearing! Reizl Bozyk as the Grandmother is exceptional! One of Amy Irving' best performance and Peter Riegert is engaging. A GEM!

    Great Movie! 5 Star Review
2009-05-01 - This is a wonderful movie.....not the "beat em up and bust em" flicks that have polluted the screen lately. The characters and just great. A real people movie!
