Back in high school, Chris (Reynolds) was an overweight nerd and in love with his best friend Jamie (Smart), but she only thought of him like a brother. Ten years later, Chris is now a hot L.A. music exec and finds himself himself back in his hometown and in love with Jamie all over again. But can they really be more than Just Friends?

    Description of Just Friends:
Manic energy and an agreeable level of comic insanity turn Just Friends into the kind of brainless comedy you can enjoy as a modest guilty pleasure. If you liked director Roger Kumble's previous comedy The Sweetest Thing (and let's face it, that movie had some really funny moments), chances are you'll get at least a few solid belly-laughs from this not-so-high-concept premise, in which a formerly fat high-schooler named Chris (Ryan Reynolds) is transformed, ten years later, into a womanizing music executive with a high-profile client (Anna Faris) in the Britney Spears/Christina Aguilera mold. As it zips along with some broad-stroked slapstick and snappy one-liners, the screenplay by Adam Tex Davis contrives to reunite Chris with Jamie (Amy Smart), the former cheerleader who was the great, unrequited love of Chris' miserable high-school life. By his narcissistic logic, he'll seduce her by treating her badly (i.e. she'll want what she thinks she can't have), but he gets unexpected competition in the form of a "Mr. Sensitive" type (Chris Klein, from American Pie), and it's pretty much Hollywood formula from there on, as Just Friends loses momentum without losing its basic appeal. And while Reynolds invests his character with an unexpected degree of emotional nuance, Faris (Scary Movie 3) pulls out all the stops, going deliriously over-the-top to maintain her reputation as a rising comedy starlet with a (hopefully) promising future. We're not talking rocket science here, folks... just sit back, take off your thinking cap, and have some fun. --Jeff Shannon

    Just Friends Reviews:
Not so great 2 Star Review
2009-11-16 - I think that Ryan Davis and Amy Smart make a great combination.

Bad news is that this movie stunk.

There were a few moments where I did laugh my butt off, but, overall, I kept waiting for the movie to be over.

    Skip this one.

    hilarious! 5 Star Review
2009-10-22 - really great movie; i saw it on tv and loved it even though it was edited (i think any movie's funnier with profanity). bought it around a month ago and have watched it several times already. ryan reynolds' fat suit and puffy hair along with his rendition of boys II men is awesome. i'd reccommend to anyone and everyone. BFF!!

    RYAN! 5 Star Review
2009-10-02 - If you've seen any Ryan Reynolds films, then you know what to expect. Hilarious every time.

Ryan Reynolds brings belly laughs 5 Star Review
2009-09-16 - I loved this movie because it made my entire family laugh (not easy to do)! The funniest parts to me were the relationship between Chris and his brother Mike - very authentic -- which brought back memories of growing up with four brothers. I also liked the little things in the movie, including where Chris rediscovered his snowglobe collection (Aww...) and where he threw the snowball at his neighbor who wished him merry Christmas. Lots of fun and a great performance by Ryan Reynolds!

Fighting over which movie to watch? 5 Star Review
    2009-08-31 - Watch Just Friends!

My husband and I have a nightly discussion of which movie to watch. His choice is always movies like Star Wars, Apollo 13 and Transformers. My choice is always going to be the opposite of war, space and violence. In other words, Chick Flicks! But the movies we can always agree on to watch, which we both mutually enjoy, are The American President, and JUST FRIENDS.
Just Friends offers the comedy relief we all need now and again.
Play close attention to Anna Feris. Her facial expresions crack us up eveytime we watch it.
    Darla...

This movie was a surprise hit for the both of us.
