Description of Rat Race (Special Collector's Edition):
Modeled after 1963's It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, Jerry Zucker's Rat Race lacks the irreverence of Zucker's 1980 hit Airplane! but has enough chuckles to make it an agreeable time-killer. Like Mad, Mad, Mad..., it employs a huge ensemble of comedy stalwarts, assembled by an eccentric hotelier (pearly-toothed John Cleese) to race from Las Vegas to New Mexico for a $2 million jackpot. With a backstage gambling subplot, Rowan Atkinson's Italian-geek lunacy, Seth Green's slacker antics, and some nicely understated work from SCTV alumnus Dave Thomas, the movie has almost as many highlights as clunkers, and Zucker's embrace of easy gags and traditional slapstick will tickle anyone's old-fashioned funny bone. Other ingredients are hopelessly stale: Whoopi Goldberg's frantic mugging, Cuba Gooding's latter-day Stepin Fetchit, "mature" humor that compromises the movie's broad appeal, and the assumption that crashing vehicles are inherently hilarious. Lamentable decisions, perhaps, but Rat Race maintains a pleasantly altruistic spirit. --Jeff Shannon

Do it for the money, and you do it for the laughs 
2009-04-26 - This is probably one of those comedies in which you never expect it to make you laugh. When watching it, you realize that it's done its job VERY well. Oh, yes! This one made me laugh as if I was breathing in laughing gas. The visual gags and verbal humor actually worked. The all-star cast (Cleese, Goldberg, Lovitz, Gooding Jr., Green, Atkinson, etc.) made it all the more enjoyable. The silly adventures (confronting a biker gang, riding on a bus full of Lucy Ricardo lookalikes, meeting a woman who sells squirrels, etc.) are so ridiculous and unbelievable that you can't help but have a good time while watching this film. The only problem I had with the film was when Smash Mouth played their hit single, "All-Star", at the end of the film. I have heard that song WAY too many times now, and I wish the crew used a song that hasn't been overplayed in TV commercials, films, and on the radio.
Otherwise, this is a great comedy. Grade: A-
THE most hilarious movie I have ever seen!
2009-04-04 - I love comedies, but this movie has me rolling on the floor every time I watch it. The creators and writers keep you laughing the whole way through this movie and it honestly has your stomach muscles aching from so much laughter in the end! (Maybe it should have been marketed as an exercise video! LOL). In any event, this is an awesomely funny movie. I think just about anyone would enjoy this star studded movie! I bought it because I just HAVE to loan it to anyone I know that hasn't seen it!

2009-03-04 - To me, Rat Race is like an awesome updated version of 'It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.' A gambling billionaire named Donald Sinclair picks 8 random people to race to Silver City, New Mexico at a Train Station to recieve $2 million. After they all agree to go after it, they travel by any means necessary to get there. It's hilarious how they all try to get there! Who gets it? You have to join the RAT RACE!!!
Great music and quick delivery.
2008-12-28 - The CD was everything I expected it to be. Thank you! My only suggestion is that CD's should be shipped in a well-padded envelope as the case was cracked when I received it. No big deal though; it's the music that counts! :)

2008-07-22 - This is one of those movies that I have seen about a dozen or so times. When I saw it in the movie theater, I nearly busted a gut. It's the kind of humor I love, real slapstick, in the genre of movies like "Airplane" or "Vacation". Completely goofy and entertaining with a fun cast who really pull off a very entertaining movie.
I owned Rat Race in VHS and am now in the process of replacing it on DVD. There are not many movies I have replaced in this manner -- but this one is just mindless entertainment. And sometimes you really need that.
If you are seeking a good laugh, nothing deep or inspirational ... just downright funny. Grab this one. It's great! :)
