Per Amore Reviews:
Nothing new, but a decent compilation nevertheless.
2008-11-08 - This is Andrea Bocelli's second compilation CD, released only in Japan in 2000. There are no new songs on this CD (just to let prospective buyers know in advance), but it's nice to have some of the best songs from his first four pop albums (namely 'Il Mare Calmo della Sera,' 'Bocelli,' 'Romanza,' and 'Sogno') in a different sequence.
If you don't feel like spending the ridiculous price for it, a more practical choice would be 'The Best of Andrea Bocelli: Vivere.' I bought this mainly because I'm a die-hard Bocelli fan, but go figure.
Trashy reincarnation of his music
2001-07-29 - I saw this CD listed on Amazon last year and was very excited until I saw the tracklist. Basically, the whole thing is just the same songs over and over and over again, nothing new. Don't be fooled into thinking that a "best" collection like THIS contains any of Andrea's "greatest hits," like "Time To Say Goodbye" and "The Prayer." Instead, he puts songs that aren't really necessary for this project, like "Caruso" and "Il Mare Calmo Della Sera." Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mean the songs are horrible. I just mean that it's WAY TOO EARLY in Andrea's career for him or his Philips/Insieme S.R.L. to even THINK about getting this out into the Japanese market. They shouldn't buy it, and neither should we, because like I said it's all recycled material in such a way that he gets no credit.
Trashy reincarnation of his music
2001-02-19 - Okay, all you Bocelli fans out there, get over it: this "new" album is nothing more than recycled tracks. That's understandable since it's his Japanese debut, but for THAT MUCH?!? I DON'T THINK SO! I have decided NOT to waste my money on "Il Mare Calmo Della Sera" or the 1995 "Bocelli" album, because a lot of the material is seriously "overplayed." Or this one because I have all those damn songs on "Romanza" and "Sogno." It's starting to come to me while at the same time Andrea's been doing "covers" (Il Mare Calmo Della Sera is a Malise song), he's also "reincarnating" a lot of the songs he's sung and putting them on other CDs. COME ON, ANDREA, I KNOW YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS! Anyway, a new classical album by Bocelli called "Love Duets" will be out soon, but if only he were more productive and quit putting the same songs on different CDs. Now you know why I don't collect CD singles of his. I'd advise you all NOT to waste money on this or any of Bocelli's singles except the Canto Della Terra (#5634592) and other albums that DON'T have the same material all over again. If you're a die-hard fan, that's a different story. As for me, I'm saving my money for subsequent non-recycled material by my favorite singer and at the same time thinking of writing to Insieme S.R.L. and BEGGING them to have Bocelli do dance remixes of future singles. That's one thing I seriously want from him more than ever.
Cup Half Empty
2001-02-05 - Per Amore is dissapointing for those wanting classical or regional favorites of love. The CD starts with this promise and does it well, but the many latter recordings are permiated with the current pop vocal formula. The creshendos are not emmotionally beleivable, the octive drops too frequent and accessible. The direction of the music seems more driven by new market considerations than Andrea's heart.
Most extensive Bocelli album, but....
2000-12-27 - Okay, okay, I AM obsessed with Andrea and the song Per Amore. The material that highlights this whole album was taken from Romanza and Sogno, thus making this his most extensive "Greatest Hits" collection. It's just the lack of new material that really disappoints me. New fans who don't have a single one of his CDs and who might particularly want "the album with the most extensive line of material" might love this (be prepared to pay a lot of money). True Bocelli fans will love this album but will probably still wait (like I am) for more, more, more.
