Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli grew up in Lajatico, a rural village in Tuscany, where his family still farms nearby. Last July, on the slopes of his ancient hill town, a special theater was constructed for a one-night-only concert of his greatest popular hits along with new songs performed to honor the occasion. Some famous musical friends dropped by and the magical result is Andrea Bocelli - Vivere - Live in Tuscany, premiering this December on PBS.

Joining Andrea for the new songs are "grandissimo sassofonista" Kenny G, trumpeter Chris Botti, piano virtuoso Lang Lang, Italian pop star Eliza, and legendary musician, songwriter and producer David Foster. Helping with the hits: favorite divas Sarah Brightman, Heather Headley and Laura Pausini.

Surveying the breathtaking landscape that provides the backdrop for the festivities, Bocelli introduces the telecast with the passion of a true Toscano. "It's my land," he says, "a land that loves silence as much as I do. If I break this silence with my voice, it's because I want to pay tribute. Music penetrates this land; it flows across it and flies off far away. It's a message of love."

Musical highlights include the song that launched Bocelli's career, "Il Mare Calmo Della Sera"; the one that brought him international stardom, "Time to Say Goodbye," in duet with Sarah Brightman; Laura Pausini joining him for "Dare to Live" ("Vivere"); Bocelli and Heather Headley reprising the popular "Vivo Per Lei," plus several new selections from the just-released The Best of Andrea Bocelli - Vivere album (Sugar Music/Decca). Also featured is a meltingly romantic medley of songs from his 2006 collection, Amore: "Bésame Mucho," "Somos Novios" ("It's Impossible") and "I Can't Help Falling in Love with You."

Best ever
2009-11-18 - Anyone who is a Bocelli fan will love this DVD. Everything about the performance and everyone involved is top notch. It made me wish I was wealthy enough to be there in person. I was not familiar with several of the performers and will look for their music now also.
It seems to me Bocelli has improved since my favorite previous CD of his - Romanza - even though I would have thought that unlikely. He has a perfect voice for Italian romance classics, probably the best ever. I was a big Povorotti fan, but he was better with Opera than this type of classical music. The backup music as well as guest musicians are all first rate as well. Any classical music fan should have this DVD in their collection.

Andrea at his best
2009-11-13 - What can you say that has not already been said in praise for Andrea Bocelli. This is just another of his fantastic albums. I can not say it is the best as ALL of his albums are of the highest standard and are just ALL THE BEST! Please keep it up, Andrea - your voice is certainly "the voice of God."

2009-10-20 - An absolute must for your musical collection. The venue, cinematography and artists and their performances combine to make this an unforgettably enjoyable CD/DVD.

He's no Pavarotti, but he is wonderful
2009-10-11 - 2007 ? How did I miss this until tonight? And I still didn't get to see the entire concert. I have ordered it from PBS, for much more than the retail value, because I know that I need PBS to be available to all of us.

I have followed Bocelli for many years, and have tremendous respect for his talent.

However, watching the Tuscany 2007 concert tonight, I was reminded of Pavarotti, and sadly Bocelli just isn't there yet. He may be in 10 or 20 years.

This is likely trite as heck, but the one totally original song was the one with Laura Pausini, "Dare to Live".

I have heard "The Prayer" a thousand times, and it still brings chills. Heather Headly was excellent in this concert.
