Written by multiple EMMY Award Winner Wendell Morris fourteen year old Alyssa (Carly Schroeder):("The Lizzie McGuire Movie" "Firewall") has been living with her Grandmother (Academy Award Nominated Katharine Ross) since the death of her mother a year ago. Troubled and lost it is decided she should go to the Bahamas to live with the father she never knew she had. Caught in the difficult realization of having a father coupled with the adjustment to island culture she seeks refuge in the discovery of the astonishing gift she has for communicating with dolphins. But when the powers-that-be threaten to close down her father's dolphin research facility it is Alyssa and her wild cetacean friend who hold the key.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: CHILDREN/FAMILY Rating: PG UPC: 012233141023 Manufacturer No: 314102
Eye of the Dolphin Reviews:
Is this a joke?
2008-08-28 - 'Cause I don't get it. This movie has rave reviews, received awards, and looked like a good movie. My husband and I agreed that this seemed like a high school film-class project. The acting was forced to the point of being painful and if there was a steady-cam, it must have gotten sand in it so the image jerks at a particular frequency, making it difficult to watch. Whatever budget they had probably went entirely toward working with the dolphins. Regardless of the message the movie conveyed, it was too irritating and slow to watch. After 35 minutes, we couldn't take it any more and stuffed it back in the box.
One star only for the dolphins
2008-08-22 - I picked this DVD up at the library. The story moves along slowly with poor acting by pretty much unknown actors. It is the typical Disney style story of the troubled teen whose life is spiraling out of control only to find her father who she thought was dead. Of course in the beginning father rejects this sudden surprise and a series of events happen that bring them together in the end. I quit watching the movie and tossed it back in the return box at the library. Zzzzzzzz
Great
2008-04-14 - I like films that are aimed at children (books too) - there is usually something so pure about them. This is a great one - will show it to my grandchildren.
Story Gets In the Way of Message
2008-01-24 - For awhile, I thought this was going to be mostly a remake of the wonderful 1970s Mike Nichols-directed "Day of the Dolpin" with George C. Scott. Both are about dolphin research in the Bahamas. Both are about groups of money-grubbing people who want to stop the research. The major difference (beside the terrorist-political aspect of "Day") is that this one has the lost-father, lost-daughter aspect, which sometimes almost gets in the way of the main point--people and dolphins have to communicate. My recommendation is: see both movies. In their individual ways, both are excellent.
Great
2008-01-21 - I really, really liked this movie. I loved that it was filmed in the Bahamas and had dolphins in it and the way Hawk and Alyssa grew closer and closer to having a father/daughter relationship. The only thing I didn't like is that Alyssa was always surrounded by people older than her. There wasn't a single kid with a big part in the movie besides Alyssa. Maybe if she had met a few girls (or boys... hehe), I'd have rated this 5 stars instead of 4.
Good movie overall, though.
