Editorial Review:
THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW - THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON, is a comedy about a North Carolina widower named Andy Taylor who divides his time between raising his son, Opie (Ron Howard) and being sheriff of the small and virtually crime-free town of Mayberry. With next to no crimes to solve, Andy spends time philosophizing and trying to calm down his cousin, Deputy Barney, played by Don Knotts.
Description of The Andy Griffith Show - The Complete Second Season:
The Andy Griffith Show returns on DVD with its complete second season, a five-disc collector’s set of 31 episodes more memorable than one of Aunt Bee’s "kerosene cucumbers." Set in the small town of Mayberry, the television series (1960-1968) followed the hilarious antics of widower Sheriff Andy Taylor (Andy Griffith), his son Opie (Ron Howard), and Deputy Barney Fife (Don Knotts). It has achieved cult status as one of television’s most beloved sitcoms for its stellar cast, pristine comedy, and nostalgic charm. By season two, the series found its tone and tenor, proved by such classic episodes as "The Pickle Story," "The Manicurist," and "Barney and the Choir." After viewers endure (or skip) Paramount’s half dozen promotional trailers at the beginning of disc one, they can bask in 13 hours of restored, uninterrupted, black and white television magic. The season’s parade of guest stars includes Barbara Eden, Buddy Ebsen, Alan Hale Jr., Bill Bixby, and Sterling Holloway. Whereas the first season’s DVD set was without bonus material, this collection features sponsor spots, original commercial advertisements (linked to individual episodes) where the show’s cast members promote brands such as "Sanka" coffee and "Post" breakfast cereals--a guaranteed smile. The Andy Griffith Show - The Complete Second Season Reviews:
Very good season!
2009-12-02 - I really like this season. One of the reasons why is because it has a lot of classic episodes in it like "The Pickle Story" or "Three's A Crowd" even "The Merchant Of Mayberry" which features Sterling Holloway who was later the voice of Winnie The Pooh. Barney is very funny in this season especially in "Barney And The Choir".
This season also features one of my favorite actors Buddy Ebson in "Opie's Hobo Friend".
If you like wholesome entertainment go head and pick this up - it won't disappoint.
Andy Griffith Review
2009-11-18 - Order arrived on time and in good condition. If you like the Andy Griffith show, I would highly recommend it.
Didn't disappoint us
2009-08-31 - WE are really enjoying the Andy Griffith Show second season. Our whole family watches it together. It is unfortunate that it is so difficult to find tv shows appropriate for all members of the family these days.
Unlike some other reviewers we are enjoying the added commercial clips on the DVD set. They show the cast having fun by working in the sponsor's claims to fame while keeping with their characters and even the episode's background. It would be refreshing to see advertisements this straight forward today. It is also nice to see that the cast did not take themselves too seriously.
I love this show, watch it over and over.
2009-04-30 - This is one television show that I never tire of. I really love Barney Fife. I think Don Knotts has to be one of thee greatest character actors on the planet. He puts so much life into the character of Barney, from the facial expressions to the body language, and the emotional highs and lows that he portrays. I have been a huge fan of the Andy Griffith show for decades and have always wanted what I call the definiitive Barney Fife collection. Usually, the price for this season and all single seasons are thirty plus dollars. Well, Amazon has them for half that price. Do the math, thirty two episodes at fifty cents a show, what a bargain, and no commercials !!!. I bought season two thru five, yippee !!
Andy Griffith Show - complete 2nd
2009-04-02 - Like the 1st season, Andy, Opie, Aunt Bea and Barney, along with the rest of Mayberry, are at their best. The faults and idiosyncrasies of the citizens of Mayberry can be found in the people we all know and love. The dialogue shared by the wonderful comedic cast as they go about solving life's little problems is often priceless. The season also, once again, has some delightful guest appearances. One by a very young and lovely Barbara Eden. I might add that by buying the Andy Griffith Show on DVD, you are always sure to see the epilog (not always an option when televised)!
