Editorial Review:
One Track Mind, the working title for the fifth Woodshed production, is the much anticipated latest addition to an already impressive library of surf films which includes A Brokedown Melody, Thicker Than Water and the classic September Sessions. The film features a series of historic surf adventures spanning several generations of surfers whose common focus is to be the best at what they do. The opening sessions include some of the most inspirational and successful wave riders ever, including five former world champions. Tom Curren, Mark Occhilupo, Sunny Garcia, CJ Hobgood and Andy Irons discuss the past, present and future of performance surfing, including their place in each. Subsequent sessions venture into the unknown realm of surfings competitive future as we see the next crew of serious world title contenders. Watch as Bobby Martinez, Dane Reynolds and Jaime OBrien push the status quo and search for their own fortune and fame, which may prove to be just around the corner. Peer into the lives of the super groms, the youngest group of sponsored surfers. We see talents as Jon Jon Florence, Kolohe Andino and Luke Davis take on the challenges and pressures of surfing at an incredibly high level while so young. Expect a wide range of surfing styles, perspectives and personalities making One Track Mind unique and attractive to a wide audience. This on-screen journey strives to be a slight departure from the traditional Woodshed movies in that rather than searching for inspiration in free surfing, this film explores the technical side and ambitious nature of these highly competitive individuals and their internal drive to succeed.
ONE TRACK MIND Reviews:
def for hard core surf fans...
2009-07-16 - How 'core' is the newest Woodshed Productions One Track Mind? NONE of the surfers interviewed are 'labelled' - it is assumed that we already know who the many talking heads presented in this film really are. Which is fine, if you play surfer magazine's ASP tour pool and have a broad knowledge of the sport. And make no mistake - the focus in this movie is on surfing as a hard core competitive sport - most if not all the footage seems to be from the ASP/WQS tour. The surfing is at an absolutely stellar level, but viewers looking for more soul stoke might want to go elsewhere, like investigating The Present; Thomas Campbell's (Sprout)superb new surf doc. The music - My Morning Jacket, Shins, Rogue Wave - is outstanding. Some great Dane Reynolds footage, too...
Killer
2009-06-24 - OTM has it all: Like every woodshed flick there is a great soundtrack. exceptional surfing, and stunning footage. A little different than other woodsheds in that there is actual interview footage spliced in with the surfing segments, however this ends up creating a great story line and provides a interesting look at some of the most influential and progressive players in the game. $25 will get you this film or a case of beer in canada. My advice is get your hands on $50, and get beer AND the movie, and enjoy.
