A YOUNG MAN FINDS OUT HIS LONG LOST FATHER IS AN ASSASSIN. AND WHEN HIS FATHER IS MURDERED, THE SON IS RECRUITED INTO HIS FATHER'S OLD ORGANIZATION & TRAINED BY A MAN NAMES SLOAN TO FOLLOW IN HIS DAD'S FOOTSTEPS.

    Description of Wanted (Full Screen):
As the impresario behind gravity-defying Russian blockbuster Night Watch, it's inevitable that Hollywood would come calling for Timur Bekmambetov. With a studio budget and an international cast, including two Oscar winners, Timur cooks up a Hong Kong-styled actioner bursting with fast cars and big guns. Our unlikely hero is mild-mannered Chicago accountant Wesley Gibson (Atonement's James McAvoy), whose father died when he was a tot. Wesley never learned to stand up for himself, and his girlfriend, boss, and best buddy all take advantage until the seductive Fox (Angelina Jolie) rescues him from a sharpshooter named Cross (The Pianist’s Thomas Kretschmann). After which, she whisks him away to a mansion on the edge of town to meet the other members of the Fraternity, where leader Sloan (Morgan Freeman) informs Wesley that Cross, a rogue agent, executed his father. Sloan believes Wesley has the goods to take him out, so he undergoes the Fraternity's brutal training regimen (Marc Warren and Common dish up some of the abuse). When he's ready, Sloan sends him out to fulfill his duty, but matters become complicated when Wesley finds out someone isn't telling the truth, leading our former milquetoast to exact an elaborate revenge. For those who've been following McAvoy's career to date, Wanted will surely come as a surprise. In adapting Mark Millar's comic series, Timur offers buckets of blood and a smidgen of depth, but fans of The Matrix and Mr. and Mrs. Smith will want to give this one a look. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

    Wanted (Full Screen) Reviews:
Ten years to late 3 Star Review
2009-12-23 - If you go into this movie with realistic expectations you should not be dissappointed. The plot is pretty simple and very easy to follow. The actors are very good, Angela Jolie shows in this movie that she likes taking on roles that give her chance to do something besides be eye-candy. Morgan Freeman plays a role you don't see him play very often, and the supporting cast is good(Common is excellent).

The action is great, the idea of curving a bullet is cool.

    BUT

I couldn't help but think through the whole movie, "this kind of movie has been done so many times, I'm bored with it." You can take the F/X from this movie and you won't see anything that hasn't been done and in some cases done better in the last several years. I guess I'm saying all this is, is recycled action movie, which if that's what you're looking for you'll like. BUT if you're searching for something that you won't forget any time soon pass on this movie.

Did not like this movie 2 Star Review
2009-12-20 - So the overplayed plot of the chosen one is done once again, only such a story is done far better in other movies (Matrix, Underworld). "Wanted" is one of those movies in which you think to yourself during the movie, how did I get duped into thinking this was going to be a good movie... Was it the action packed trailer? Was it the trailer with Jolie? If you are a big Jolie fan then you might actually enjoy this. Otherwise, it is a bad rip off of other movies. And yes, the whole "reading of the loom" was just bad.

    Wanted 5 Star Review
2009-12-17 - Wanted was by far one of the very best action movies for 2008. It was a very fun wild ride from start to finish. It had many twists, turns, gore, blood, and action. Just strap in and get ready for a roller coaster ride of your life.

A loom? are you serious? 1 Star Review
2009-12-13 - This movie is offensively bad. I mean really, really incredibly stupid. Watch it just to laugh at it. This movies success is proof of de-evolution. Who likes stuff like this? Finger painting monkeys could have written a better story. This is a perfect example of everything I don't like about modern action movies.

I'd site specific reasons why I think this movie is so bad, but I don't want to "spoil it" (ha! like it could get worse) for anyone who hasn't witnessed the idiocy-made-flesh that is this abomination.

You want to see a good action movie? Watch Dirty Harry. I know it's old and not as flashy, but it has things like acting and a story that makes sense. As far as something more recent, I didn't love Transporter, but compared to this it was poetic genius. Uwe Boll must LOVE this movie.

    Disappointment 1 Star Review
2009-12-12 - Bought this BD along with a well recommended LG BD Player and not to mention other BD titles. All the BD's that I bought (through amazon at the same time with this title) seemed to have worked perfectly with the LG BD Player EXCEPT for this one. Bought this around October and it has never been opened till today because I was waiting for the perfect time to watch it. So disappointing.
