Bye Bye Birdie (1963 Film Soundtrack) Reviews:
bye bye birdie - the best!
2009-12-03 - I have loved the music to Bye Bye Birdie for over 40 years - what a treasure. The cd is great!
What Were They Thinking?
2009-04-11 - They were thinking they had a megawatt moneymaker on their hands, and they did. Original be damned!!
And it was, dragged down, ripped apart and ruined. The film is a pale copy of what was on the stage. The story was ridiculously altered (Russian ballet on speed on Ed Sullivan???), even the promotional material is off base. Ann Margret in stilleto heels, legs in the air in her tight red dress..an all American teenager??
Dick Van Dyke delivers, as does Paul Lynnde re-creating their roles..but even they seem to be straining to deal with the incredulous second half of the film.
Goes into the WWTT file!
The Jason Alexander/Vanessa Williams television version is much closer to the original idea and contains the entire score. Skip the film version, I found it painful to watch as an adult.
Timeless....
2009-03-19 - I remember listening to this when I was a child.
Now my daughter is a musical buff, and I wanted to introduce her to
the "oldies" that I grew up with. Ann-Margaret, Dick Van Dyke, Paul Lynde....it still sounds good and now my daughter is a fan.
True to the film
2007-11-08 - I love this soundtrack. The songs sound just like they do in the movie, except that at last you get to hear "One Last Kiss" all the way to the end! Yay!
Oh ,That ANN MARGRET!!!
2007-10-04 - Was so happy to see this CD reissued! Especially the additional music and photos! The opening and closing numbers are the best! Ann Margret singing the title song was a fantasy for so many young men in the 60's! There will never be a better performance on film!
