Editorial Review:
Twenty-year-old Anna Nalick is the rare artist who makes you want to grab pop music's wheels by the spokes so they'll stop spinning so fast. "Wait," the 11 songs on this debut disc say collectively to the newly initiated, "there's something substantial here." An onslaught of substance is more what it feels like, actually, and it grabs hold early. Though each of these songs is distinctive enough to avoid congealing with the others into a gorgeous glop of introspection, heavy sighs, and reflection, leadoff track and first single "Breathe (2 A.M.)" works small wonders as a flagship song. Its simple, lonely piano swirls into guitars that stop just short of rocking, allowing plenty of room for Nalick's unaffected voice to spill in. When it does, the music turns forest-thick and dreamy--influences run the Tori Amos indie singer-songwriter gamut, with streaks of Jewel and Alanis Morissette spiking out--but there's a naturalness and urgency to her singing that saves every chorus and verse from clouding over. Now that she's cautiously alighted into pop territory, sophisticated listeners will do well to dust off their welcome mats. --Tammy La Gorce

Wreck of the Day Reviews:
Every bit as good as I hoped 5 Star Review
2009-09-16 - This review began as a reply to Captain Suck who complained that the CD lacked other songs similar to "Breathe (2 am)". I utterly disagree. I bought this CD on the strength of a single hearing of that song, and every track is far more than just the same-old-same-old fluff. Her writing, her voice, (and the backing production), are beautiful, soulful, rich, creative, complex, a large cut above most stuff out there.

So... To Captain S: You were looking for ballads of contemplative melancholy, and you didn't find any others on this album? I'm confused. Is it only that the music is so good that you never heard the words?

I quote from the tracks in order:

"You can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable, and life's like an hourglass glued to the table, no one can find the rewind button now, so just cradle your head in your hands and breathe, just breathe."

"I'm sitting on a citadel, contemplating life ... what if I fall? What if I dont?.. What if I break? And I find that I can't take the city below the citadel?.. I'm holding on to something, it's keeping me from jumping... So afraid to go it alone"

"'I can see you laugh through these bottle caps' ... 'I blame these puddles on the rain' ... she says, 'hey, can you talk a little louder, I don't think my heart is broken enough' ... 'someday we'll all be old and I'll be so damn beautiful, meanwhile I'll hide my head here in this paper bag, 'cause if I can't see you then you can't see me'"

"Driving away from the wreck of the day ... desperately close to a coffin of hope, I'd cheat destiny just to be near you ... I'm thinking of calling on Jesus ... if this is giving up, then I'm giving up on love"

"Black and blue, I chose my wave ... delayed by one more broken season to find a reason for appeasing you ... so I found my guiding light ... satellite save my life, I'm wishing on a two-way radio, love might be just like me, jaded faded all alone, a whisper on a two-way radio"

"On the ground with my world upside down I got a vision of your face ... I just want to hear you say again, forever love, say you'll love, digame, digame, tell me so I can hold you in my soul, and if I go, I'll know."

"I hear it was you who 'died alone', and I offer no sympathy for that, better off I sparkle on my own ... someday love will find me in the rough, someday love will finally be enough"

"And I wonder if truly you are nearly as beautiful as I believe, in my head, your voice, you've got all that I need, and this make-believe will get me through another lonely night ... if ever we meet ... melancholy and cool, kind of bittersweet, I'm echoing all of your philosophies"

"It's been almost a year to the moment when I finally realized it was over and I knew that love wasn't good enough of a reason for me to stay ... hiding beneath my blankets and sheets I'm finally free, I'm killing the ghost of you and I'm close to awakening me, so I'm taking my heart and I'm getting me out ... now you're just another song to me and the edge of your sword isn't sharp enough for me to bleed."

"You're taking these pills for to fill up your soul and drinking them down with cheap alcohol, and I'd be inclined to be yours for the taking, and part of this terrible mess that you're making, but me, I'm the catalyst."

"Consider this a warning, 'cause I'll start another fight, and you'll say it's all alright ... don't bother wasting your time if you're trying to change me ... dreaming doesn't do no good ... I'll never better bridges that I'm bent to burn"

(note, I have the original CD, so that's all the songs I own).

Anna Nalick Nails It 4 Star Review
2009-08-19 - A great album if you like a strong female vocal in your music. "Breathe (2am)" is a aprticularly great track.

Where is album no. 2? 3 Star Review
2009-08-12 - I bought this album four or five years ago and have always wondered what happened. Her voice is beautiful the songs are good, most are no classics but what is these days. It would be nice to hear more from Anna but if you're just discovering this album and Anna enjoy!

My Review 5 Star Review
2009-01-20 - Excellent album!! Great price!! Shipped quickly!! All promises were kept! All artwork, case and cd were in perfect condition. Not one bad thing to say about this experience or the album.

A+ 4 Star Review
2009-01-06 - Anna Nalick was only 21 when she released this album and she sounds alot older than her years. The songs on this album are deep, meaningful & poetic. Although I wasn't blown away by the first single "Breathe 2am" I still knew something was there. It's odd, Anna Nalick's style is very subtle yet she caught my attention. "Wreck Of The Day" is my definition of Folk/Pop. She has similarities to some other artists out there. (A scoop of Fiona Apple, A teaspoon of Sheryl Crow with a pinch of Kelly Clarkson)
