Editorial Review:
The moving story of a woman’s determination to provide a better life for herself and five children. Set in New York’s depression-era lower East Side, Sophia Loren is an Italian immigrant who strives to preserve her family’s integrity while coping with enormous cultural changes. The talents of co-stars Edward James Olmos, John Turturro and Hal Holbrook, and the magnificent voice of Luciano Pavarotti render unforgettable Mario Puzo’s inspiring saga of hope and perseverance amid adversity and misfortune. This touching drama combines the excellent work of a marvelous casts, a beautiful music, and an extraordinary American scenario.
The Fortunate Pilgrim Reviews:
The Fortunate Pilgrim
2008-01-06 - This is one of my all time favorite movies. I have never seen this 144 minute version; my DVD is the complete 270 minute version published by Maxima Entertainment in 2005. The picture quality could be better, but it is the best way to see it. Luciano Pavorotti won an Emmy for the theme song, Caruso.

2007-01-09 - Excellent movie. Originally seen on TV many, many years ago. Finally able to purchase a copy. The story of an Italian family's immigration to the U.S. and all of their sacrifices, sorrows and joys. Able to visualize my own family's immigration and early life in U.S.
