Description of What Dreams May Come [HD DVD]:

Robin Williams and Annabella Sciorra star in this visually stunning metaphysical tale of life after death. Neurologist Chris and artist Annie had the perfect life until they lost their children in an auto accident; they're just starting to recover when Chris meets an untimely death himself. He's met by a messenger named Albert (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and taken to his own personal afterlife--a freshly drawn world reminiscent of Annie's own artwork, still dripping and wet with paint. Meanwhile a depressed Annie takes her own life, compelling Chris to traverse heaven and hell to save Annie from an eternity of despair.

The multitextured visuals seem to have been created from a lost fairy tale. Heaven recalls the landscape paintings of Thomas Cole and Renaissance architecture complete with floating cherubs, while hell is a massive shipwreck, an upside-down cathedral overgrown with thorns and a sea of groaning faces popping out of the ground (one of those faces is German director Werner Herzog). Williams is the perfect actor to play against the imaginative computer-generated imagery--he himself is a human special effect. But the lack of chemistry between Williams and Sciorra is painfully apparent, and the flashback plot structure flattens the story's impact despite its deeply felt examinations of the heart and the spirit. Still, there's no denying Eugenio Zanetti's triumphant production design and the Oscar-winning special effects, which create a fully formed universe that is at once beautiful, eerie, and a unique example of movie magic. --Shannon Gee

DVD What dreams may come 5 Star Review
2008-10-03 - I love this movie. I have watched it countless of times. If you believe in God and that life does not end after you pass over, see the movie. Absolutely Beautiful.

Very well done Mr. Vincent Ward. 5 Star Review
    2008-10-03 -

The most difficult part was to project on film the original intent of the author. The scriptwriters and director couldn't have done it without a deep understanding of the afterlife and the natural principle of reincarnation. Kudo to the editor for "cutting" the scenes with master precision, and going back and forth showing the emotional aspect of humans and the evolution of the souls.

Are we coming back to Earth to take conscious of the unconscious? Or are we going back to the "5th dimension" over & over again to re-evaluate our progress, as souls, and then make plans for the next reincarnation with our soul group? Could it be that the ultimate Divine plan is the reintegration of the souls with the Godhead?

Some people accumulate a lot of toys and a lot of money in their lifetime on Earth ...and then, they die!
If there is no afterlife, why are we humans fighting so much the tribulations of life itself? Could it be perhaps that we have a lesson to learn in this short lifespan? Jesus Himself was teaching reincarnation to His Apostles. The message of Jesus the Essene was fairly simple to the initiated and, unfortunately, so distorted by Churchianity. What a shame!
Are some Christians so blind as not being able to read the "Holy" Bible? Or, are they too busy listening to the babbling of the Bible thumpers?

The children, as part of their soul group, also had some lessons to learn and teach. Albert is an old soul that reincarnated into the doctor's son, and Leona, another old soul, reincarnated as the daughter. (Projecting these two old souls with different skin colors was real genius)

Everything in the known and unknown Universe is "vibration" pulsating at different rate of speed from the essence of God (or whichever name you want to give Him). Chris through persistence, courage, and tremendous Love, reached out to another vibration to help his soul mate back into the right path.

Very well done Mr. Vincent Ward.

a very emotional but stunningly visual film 4 Star Review
2008-09-21 - I just saw this movie for the 2nd time today on Showtime - and it made me bawl like a baby AGAIN! No wonder I hadn't seen it since it was in theatres. Visually the first hour is amazing, like nothing you have seen in a movie before. I am not sure why I react so strongly to this film, maybe it is the topic of what happens after you die, but I think it is the strong tie between the main characters, as true soul mates, that is so emotional. We all wish for such a bond, and many of us don't or will never have it, and I think that makes the movie very sad, but beautiful.
