Editorial Review:
Performed with a who's-who of East Coast session aces before a record-setting crowd of half a million fans The Concert in Central Park finds its stars just shy of their 40th birthdays and very much in their primes their voices sweet and pure and their playing relaxed perfectly in tune and in synch. The show features a mix of S&G and solo Simon tunes including all the songs that appear on the CD with the addition of a reprise of "Late in the Evening" and the first live performance of Simon's "The Late Great Johnny Ace." Description of Simon and Garfunkel - The Concert in Central Park:
What started as a suggestion for Paul Simon to play a concert in New York's Central Park blossomed, on September 19, 1981, as a full-blown Simon and Garfunkel reunion after an 11-year hiatus, and now proves a priceless snapshot of two of America's greatest folk-rock performers. (It's also the rightful bookend to Simon and Garfunkel's acoustic Live from New York City, 1967.)
Performed with a who's-who of East Coast session aces before a record-setting crowd of half a million fans, The Concert in Central Park finds its stars just shy of their 40th birthdays and very much in their primes, their voices sweet and pure and their playing relaxed, perfectly in tune and in synch. The show features a mix of S&G and solo Simon tunes, including all the songs that appear on the CD, with the addition of a reprise of "Late in the Evening" and the first live performance of Simon's "The Late Great Johnny Ace." This is classic material from start to finish, 87 minutes of unmitigated beauty. --Michael Mikesell
Simon and Garfunkel - The Concert in Central Park Reviews:
Simon and Garfunkel, Concert in Central Park
2008-07-16 - Simon and Garfunkel's Concert in Central Park was very good. It brought back a lot of memories and great music. This was about 1981, so they were still young and their voices sounded great. The musicians backing them up were very good. So, it was good video and good sound. They are not too crazy about one another, as many band members grow tired of being around one another for years. But, they took care of the business at hand and produced a fine concert with a tremendous crowd attending the outdoor event.
A Folk concert of Epic proportions
2008-05-28 - This movie is a must have for S&G fans. It was S&G's first concert in 10 years and they drew half a million people to central park.
Great!
2008-01-18 - I watched this movie on cable when it first came out and this DVD has so much more to offer than what I saw in the telivised version , the video is so life like that you feel like you are there and the sound makes you wish you were
Simon & Garfuncle Supberb
2008-01-07 - Simon & Garfuncle's re-union concert in Central Park New York is a masterpiece of open-air television. Singing all their greatest hits the pair are true professional entertainers. This is a thouroughly enjoyable view with great sound and lighting. RECOMMENDED HIGHLY.
GOD BLESS JAMES TAYLOR
2008-01-07 - James Taylor was the driving force to get these icons back performing again. The emotion can be seen in their faces as they celebrate a fantstic reunion together.
I didn't look, but if anyone gives this program ANYTHING LESS than a five they should be ashamed.
