    Description of Innocent Blood:
John Landis was the perfect director for Innocent Blood, a horror-comedy hybrid that does for French vampires in Pittsburgh what Landis's An American Werewolf in London did for hungry lycanthropes in Picadilly Square. Anne Parillaud, the sexy star of La Femme Nikita, is perfectly cast as a beguiling vampire who must feed regularly on human blood, and when she spots a local Mafia kingpin (Robert Loggia), she says to herself, "I think I'll try Italian!" But once the Mafioso realizes he's now an undead vampire, he goes on a rampant crusade of bloodthirsty vengeance, biting his soldiers and consigliere (Don Rickles, no less!) to recruit an army of undead henchmen. Pretty soon Parillaud's teamed up with an undercover cop (Anthony LaPaglia) in an attempt to stop her victims from proliferating throughout the Pittsburgh underworld. (Disconnecting the central nervous system will kill a bloodsucker, and the powerful Parillaud can snap necks as efficiently as she bites them.)

Landis keeps it all moving at a raucous pace, favoring humor without sacrificing intelligent plotting and interesting characters. Parillaud evokes sympathy even when her eyes glow fiery red and she's ripping the throats out of her victims--hey, she's only trying to survive, right? And Loggia takes one of his best-ever roles and runs with it, spouting lines of Mafioso dialogue made hilarious by the fact that he's a walking, blood-soaked corpse. Morbid humor and gruesome makeup are abundant here, as well as Landis's trademark inclusion of cameos by such horror-movie icons as Dario Argento, Sam Raimi, and monster-fan extraordinaire ForrestĀ J. Ackerman. With tenderness, toughness, a dash of kink, and plenty of laughs, this is the kind of guilty pleasure that includes "I've Got You Under My Skin" on the soundtrack, just for the sheer enjoyment of a campy double-entendre. How can you resist? --Jeff Shannon

    Innocent Blood Reviews:
Wiseguys Of The Night... 5 Star Review
2009-07-01 - If you enjoyed John Landis' classic AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, then you should love INNOCENT BLOOD! Landis takes the vampire tale and blends it perfectly w/ the ganster film. His choice of mob heavies includes Chazz Palminteri (The Usual Suspects, A Bronx Tale), Robert Loggia (Scarface), and some familiar faces from THE SOPRANOS! As the red hot, central vamp character, Marie, Landis has Anne Parillaud (Le Femme Nikita herself!). With gallons of blood, gangland goings-on, and laughs aplenty, IB proves that, in the right hands, horror and comedy are a match made in heaven (hell?)... P.S.- Watch for Don Rickles' (Casino) movie-stealing incineration scene, Tom Savini (Dawn Of The Dead) as a photographer, and Linnea Quigley (Night Of The Demons, Return Of The Living Dead, Silent Night/Deadly Night) as a screaming nurse...

Blood, Love and Laughter 5 Star Review
2009-06-27 - A little horror, a good deal of romance and lots and lots of humor. One can't help but laugh when Marie is debating about what she'll have for dinner and decides on "Italian," or when the attorney's wife cries out, "He ate my Manny!" or Sal snickers as he says (with hilarious understatement,) "This shirt is disgusting!" The film was cleverly and subtly written, directed and played, making one wonder how the actors were able to say their lines without breaking out in laughter. It is a showcase of Loggia's comedic ability and Parillaud's sensuality.

Robert Loggia's performance steals this underrated film 4 Star Review
2009-06-05 - This is an underrated vampire flick, in my opinion, with even a few
    fresh twists on the genre.

But it must be said, that Robert Loggia's performance as a mob boss,
at first shocked, then DELIGHTED to be a vampire,
with all of a vampire's abilities, is over-the-top sensational. Loggia must
have really enjoyed this role, because he dives into it with complete relish and absolute abandon.

Every scene with Loggia in it is a treat;Sometimes the film's
fascination-level recedes a bit when Loggia is off-screen, but he
always returns to pump things up again.

This is a fun Vampire flick, IMO, and Loggia's work here especially
    makes it quite worthwhile.

Falls Into Mediocrity 3 Star Review
2009-05-09 - Pretty good movie, being a hybrid of vampire horror and comedy (and crime drama). If you want a solid chiller, pass this one up. But if you'd like something different, e.g., seen about all the vamp flicks, you will want to add this one to your list. It's a lot better than Forever Knight, for those who remember that series, but it's not as funny as Vegas Vampires. If you want a vampiric comedy, try that one out instead. But all in all, this one is good. Not bad, not great, good.

Great Movie for us Cult fans 4 Star Review
2009-03-04 - This is one of the many Movies that I love to watch over and over again. I think that anyone who loves over acting would love this movie.
