Description of Arcade Fire:
Arcade Fire fans are an enthusiastic bunch, and they've been hungry for more music from their favorite group. But be forewarned, this EP was actually recorded and released by the band independently in 2003. The EP is an interesting view into the development of these musicians; decidedly less experienced at that point, the band didn't have quite as much oomph as they do now. When you compare these tracks with their first single, "Rebellion (Lies)" from Funeral, you can immediately feel a difference in confidence, from vocals on through to orchestration. That said, there is still plenty for fans to enjoy on this EP; for starters, none of these seven songs show up on their full-length, so that gives Fire fans an extra half hour of music to enjoy. Secondly, husband and wife team Win Butler and Régine Chassagne's vocals and songwriting still shine, most especially on the standout "No Cars Go" and the beautifully fragile "Headlights Look Like Diamonds." Funeral remains the best introduction to Arcade Fire, but this CD is still a great glimpse of a band with a bright future ahead. --Denise Sheppard

Arcade Fire Reviews:
The start of a great experience 4 Star Review
2009-12-16 - Arcade Fire at its origins; pure, innocent and on its way for something different. The melody, the evolution, the clouds and the sun. Arcade Fire is like life :
it's an experience of tries and mistakes... but at the end, it's a wonderful experience.
(apology my english)

Raw. Powerful. 5 Star Review
2009-05-01 - Running on straight emotion Arcade Fire Comes out to prove basics can still be beautiful. It is a very clear indicator of what came next. It keeps getting stronger.

Arcade Fire 4 Star Review
2008-08-29 - In spite of Arcade Fire's ubiquitous presence in the indie music press over the past few years and after the release of one EP/two LP's, I somehow remained unexposed to their music. In fact, the only thing I had really heard was their cover of Yeah Yeah Yeahs's "Maps" from 2005. I had read about their music here and there but never felt compelled enough to seek them out. Recently I noticed they were playing on Austin City Limits, which I often watch, so I thought it was a good opportunity to check them out. Much to my surprise, from the beginning of their set I was entranced. Arcade Fire is emotional without being sappy and diverse without seeming unfocused. I felt like an instant convert. I immediately downloaded their debut EP. When I've decided to explore a band full on I typically like to start at the beginning of their recording career and work my way through their discography. The self-titled EP does not disappoint in spite of being overshadowed by the praised Funeral LP that followed it. "No Cars Go" is my favorite track. It has become an iconic song in the indie world, fueled by a pulsing beat that drives home the track's meditative quality. While this is certainly the standout track, the rest of the EP has plenty to offer and I highly recommend it. Besides, any rock band that can incorporate a hurdy-gurdy into its instrumentation without sounding anachronistic or pompous deserves some attention. (l.k., 16 Nov 2007)

Arcade Fire Pleases the Soul! 5 Star Review
2008-04-06 - This is a CD of original recordings. Many of which are classic Arcade Fire sounds, complex chords and sounds of feeling.

If you are a fan of "No Cars Go" that you have heard perhaps on the Super Bowl this year, or on the radio, purchase this CD. It has the original recording of "No Cars Go". Vampire/Forest Fire is an intrigueing song that particularly stands out to me.

Overall I give this CD an A+!

Good music, good transaction 5 Star Review
2007-09-24 - Everything went hunky-dory in this transaction: the CD arrived in good shape, on time, and it's great music.
