Goldie Hawn wins the Comedy Medal of Honor in this box-office smash about a pampered, upper-middle class princess who joins "today's Army." Eileen Brennen and Armand Assante co-star. Year: 1980 Director: Howard Zieff Starring: Goldie Hawn, Eileen Brennen, Armand Assante

Description of Private Benjamin (Full Screen Edition):
A pampered socialite (Goldie Hawn) is so distraught after the wedding-night death of her husband (Albert Brooks) that she up and joins the Army. She whines, she pouts, she brings the corps down, until, of course, she gets with it. Eileen Brennan received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role as the butch Captain Doreen Lewis, Benjamin's nemesis. Funny and winning, the film takes an odd turn when Benjamin is assigned to the international theater and gets involved with a dour Frenchman (Armand Assante). Of course, it's all part of Benjamin's growth as a person, and the part confirmed that Hawn had gone from a go-go girl to a "you go" girl. --Keith Simanton

Private Benjamin (Full Screen Edition) Reviews:
Product & Service Review 4 Star Review
2009-10-12 - The movie arrived very soon after I ordered it online and it was well packaged so that It wouldn't be damaged so I am very happy with the service. I would have liked to know more information on it, though, such as it's aspect ratio (full screen) and the languages options (English & French with subtitles in English, French and Spanish).

I've seen better. 3 Star Review
2009-08-11 - Private Benjamin starring Goldie Hawn is a film I have tried to enjoy on many occasions - to this day I still feel this movie is missing something. This comedy isn't horrible but it isn't brilliant either. Hawn is a delightful actress but I just feel the premise and characters are a little far-fetched. The first half of the film is strong and the last hour - well I just seem to lose interest. If you want a great Goldie Hawn flick then check out Foul Play or Overboard. It's a mixed bag for me, sorry!

smart ass coming out of age movie about a JAP 5 Star Review
2009-08-07 - It is the kind of movie that I would be classify indie, Goldie is exquisite, a charm and so witty and smart...I am not a fan of her and yet I have not seen much movies with her, but now I know why she is so famous...
and I appreciate a good pro-woman girlpower movie....
    1. storyline is dynamic and quite realistic yes you could be by accident a widow divorcee at 29 yo
2.humor loaded, sexy and innocent at once
    3. portrait of women : strong women , sisterhood in the army ...
    4. a coming out of age movie about a girl who becomes a woman

I was so found of the movie that I wanted to join the army so I can become tough skin too, a strong woman...

Also to go back to the movie, for those who did not know what looks like a JAP or Jewish American Princess whell Judy Benjamin is one , a privileged jewish young woman, without the attitude though...
    great movie....

One of the best feminist movies of all time! 5 Star Review
2009-05-16 - Private Benjamin is one of the best feminist movies of all time; showing that catching a wealthy, handsome man is not all it's cracked up to be. Judy Benjamin starts out with the belief that getting married will complete her. She finds out through joining the army, that life is about what you make of yourself, not how men or society judges you to be! I love this movie. Bravo to Goldie Hawn for making this movie! It's entertaining, very meaningful, and very funny!

Like A Feminie Version of Stripes 5 Star Review
2009-01-20 - PRIVATE BENJAMIN is a hilarious movie about a spoiled rich gal(Goldie Hawn) who ends up joining the Army to start a new life after having 2 failed marriages and becoming a widow after only 6 hours of her 2nd marriage and even gets her parents so worried leading them to believe she's missing unaware that Judy Benjamin(Goldie Hawn) has joined the Army, but when her parents lay out all the cards on the table on the night Benjamin was about to DOR, Benjamin decides to stick it out by staying in the Army and improves tremendously kind of like Bill Murray did in the movie STRIPES, which by the way was released only a year later after PRIVATE BENJAMIN was, since PRIVATE BENJAMIN was released in 1980 and STRIPES was released in 1981, which takes me back to memory lane to my childhood days of living in the Imperial Valley since I was living in my hometown(El Centro, CA) at the time where I lived at for 21 years.

In addition to what makes this movie so comical, Benjamin joins the Army with false expectations not realizing how tough it really is and having a tough time keeping up with the rules, which was very similar to how it was in the movie STRIPES, except you could say that PRIVATE BENJAMIN was like a feminine version of STRIPES as well as a semi-preminition of STRIPES.

As a matter of fact, it just so happens that P.J. Soles(Private Winter) was also in the movie STRIPES too although PJ Soles wasn't as noticable having short dark brown hair in PRIVATE BENJAMIN instead of having ashy blonde hair like she did in STRIPES, HALLOWEEN, and CARRIE, but I was amused by the part when Private Winter(PJ Soles) gets caught doing hubba hubba in the tent with Craig T. Nelson by Private Benjamin(Goldie Hawn)and her fellow soldiers during their scavenger hunt in the middle of the movie.

Additionally, PRIVATE BENJAMIN was such a popular movie that they even ended up making PRIVATE BENJAMIN a series on CBS in the Fall of 1981, which co-starred Hal Williams and Eileen Brennan, but had Lorna Patterson playing Judy Benjamin instead of Goldie Hawn, but unfortunately the series PRIVATE BENJAMIN flopped after no more than 2 years which resulted in CBS cancelling the show by the Summer of 1983, which also takes me back to when we had all those budget cuts going on from the recession we had back in 1981-1982 when Ronald Reagan was president.
