    Description of Predator [Blu-ray]:
Rambo meets Alien in this terrific science-fiction thriller from 1987, directed by John McTiernan just a year before Die Hard made him Hollywood's most sought-after director of action-packed blockbusters. Arnold Schwarzenegger leads an elite squad of U.S. Army commandos to a remote region of South American jungle, where they've been assigned to search for South American officials who've been kidnapped by terrorists. Instead they find a bunch of skinned corpses hanging from the trees and realize that they're now facing a mysterious and much deadlier threat. As the squad is picked off one by one, Arnold finds himself pitted against a hideous alien creature that's heavily armed and wearing a spacesuit enabling the creature to render itself invisible. The title says it all in describing the relentless, escalating action that follows, maintained by McTiernan with an abundance of visual flair. The film's special effects are still impressive, and stunning locations in the Mexican jungles create a combined atmosphere of verdant beauty and imminent danger. The plot doesn't hold up to much scrutiny, but the movie's so exciting and tightly paced that its weaknesses seem irrelevant. --Jeff Shannon

    Predator [Blu-ray] Reviews:
Shameful Quality Blu-Ray 1 Star Review
2008-09-07 - This is the worst quality Blu-Ray I have come across so far. $26.95 is outrageous for a DVD to Blu-Ray dub. Your probably better off getting the widescreen DVD than the Blu-Ray and playing the movie on upscaling DVD player, you will get the same quality. The movie is classic, just don't buy the Blu-Ray version unless you find it in a bargin bin somewhere.

Less brain, more BLAM!. Less talk, more "FIRE!". Less suck, more AHNAHLD SHWOARZENAYGAH!!!! 4 Star Review
2008-08-27 - The Ultimate Predator, battles the Ultimate Prey: The Human Race.

This is, in the smallest nutshell physically possible, the plot of the 80's sci-fi, action, horror film "Predator", from "Die Hard" director John Mctiernan. Now wait a second, from the director of "Die Hard"? then how come nobody ever seems to give this film a second thought? Sure everybody knows about the not-so-amazing Alien vs. Predator crossover, but the original Predator? Nah, you'd have to dig pretty deep to find somebody who remembers that.

For somebody who has never seen or even remembers the release of Predator, may be shocked to here that it earned a pretty good box-office and general critical reaction to the film was positive.

To be honest, I think that Predator is an overlooked gem that brings back some of that 80's, action film nostalgia that so many people unconciously strive to find. Though not on the same level as say "Terminator" or "Aliens", "Predator" is a classic in it's own right, many more recent films have subconciously borrowed from this movie. Many images, which have become iconic in modern cinema, actually have roots in Predator.

Predator is also one of those films that improves with age. It's almost refreshing to see an old style action movie that doesn't feel like a cliche, simply because it's one of those movies that has actually created those cliches to begin with.

If you're an action movie fan who loves Terminator, Die Hard, and Aliens then this movie is for you. If you're not really that type of moviegoer, I think Predator works well enough to actually make a space in your heart for this kind of film.

    Very Good 5 Star Review
2008-08-19 - Just got the DVD and it is a very good movie. I had already seen Alien Vs. Predator, so I was looking forward to seeing this because I liked the Predators. Arnold Schwarzenegger was awesome in it as Dutch. Very good special effects and acting. Now I'm looking forward to seeing Predator 2!

My MPAA Rating=Rated R for violence, gore, and language.

Predator Blu Ray review - Read This! 5 Star Review
2008-08-10 - Over the last 4 months, I've read many reviews on the blu-ray picture quality of Predator. Many have bashed it as terrible looking transfer, however I am here to dispute it with proof. After much hesitation, I finally decided to purchase it from a retail store.

I popped in the blu-ray Predator into both my Panasonic BD30 and PS3 (for comparison), which is attached to my Pioneer Plasma PDP-5020 via HDMI, and would you believe the picture was outstanding. Of course, it doesn't look as good as other films that were released in past few years but this is best I have ever seen Predator look, with no distracting grain, digital noise or fuzziness as others have claimed. The picture actually pops with trees and jungle leaves showing lots of detail. I have attached 2 pictures so you can see how good it looks on my display.

The reasons why I think this blu ray looks terrible for all the reviewers (Pros and consumers)is because they have HDTV's that do not have 1) deep dark levels 2) 24 FPS and 3) Digital Noise Reduction capable displays. Pioneers are way ahead of all other HDTV's and here is the proof.

Before you decide to bash the blu-ray version of Predator, first ask yourself if your HDTV is really up to performing at its highest level.

If you would like to see more screen shots, I have attached my email address to the pictures.

Don't see what all the fuss is about 3 Star Review
2008-08-07 - Grown men running around in the jungle. That's really all there there is to this movie. I love the alien and alien vs. predator series put I really never cared for the original predators. As a matter of fact only give it three stars because everything else from the Predator universe is great. If not, I probably would have given it a one, or a two star review. Like most people say it really is Rambo meets Alien in the jungle, but to me it has no soul, no depth to the movie like the first two Alien movies. Those movies I'll always remember, but the characters in Predator are pretty two dimensional. Yes there's a ton, if not a truckload of action, but that's really all. Arnold Schwarzenegger's movie are all like that. The dialogue is also terrible, and there all trying way to hard to not sound like 10 year olds. I know most people love this movie and think of it as an instant classic, but it just doesn't click with with me. It's also not scary, or truly suspensful. In the end, the whole movie tries to hard. I do recommend the Predator comics though. They are waaaay better than the movies. D+
