  • Editorial Review:
In 1977, an independent documentary movie shone a light on the world of bodybuilding, becoming a huge box office hit and creating an international sensation. It launched one man's multi-million dollar career and changed the world of bodybuilding and physical exercise forever: PUMPING IRON. Starring five-time Mr. Olympia, Arnold Schwarzenegger, the movie followed the 28-year old bodybuilder as he competed for his 6th title.

Description of Pumping Iron (25th Anniversary Special Edition):
Arnold Schwarzenegger works the crowds, plots strategies for defeating multiple opponents, shares his parents' values with the press, and inspires legions of admirers with his resolute optimism about the future. And all of this long before he decided to run for governor of California, in 1977's hit documentary, Pumping Iron. Larger than life, though not necessarily larger than his rivals for the Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia bodybuilding titles (especially a young Lou Ferrigno, hot on Arnold's competitive trail but much less interesting), Schwarzenegger still comes across, at age 28, as a consummate politician, smart, likable, and crafty about exploiting others' psychological weaknesses. The film still feels redundant (there's only so much beefcake the human eye will tolerate), but the emotional dramas--the unrewarded hard work, the unanswered hopes--are compelling. Complete with a revealing 2003 interview with Schwarzenegger and a reunion of the film's bodybuilders and director. --Tom Keogh

Pumping Iron (25th Anniversary Special Edition) Reviews:
Great and motivational movie. 5 Star Review
    2009-12-01 - What a great bodybuilding movie!

Arnold clearly shows off his great physique and knowledge.

It inspires me to keep going to the gym and enjoying the process of building muscles.

    Watch this 5 Star Review
2009-12-01 - Great doco. Even if youre not into bodybuilding this is entertaining viewing. The special features are good too. Arnold is sort of like the Elvis of bodybuilding - he virtually started off the phenomenon singlehandly.

clean and jerk 4 Star Review
2009-11-15 - rinse and repeat . this brilliant british activist and bodybuilder affected an austrian accent for the entirety of this fascinating after school special about gettin' buff . subsequently he embarked on a couple of "GONAD THE BARBARIAN" feature films before joining the superb team of hosts (FRAN TARKENTON , MARJOE GORTNER and ED McMAHON) on the scrappy and long running "THOSE REAL , AMAZING AND INCREDIBLE HUMAN ANIMALS" television hour . then he simply vanished *. currently residing in the (where are they now ?) file , lets hope he finds his footing and returns to programing such as this . * much thanks to WIKIPEDIA in writing this review .

Arnold: the exemplary Bodybuilder's body 5 Star Review
2009-09-29 - It's not until you take a look at contemporary bodybuilders, and what passes for 'gyms' these days, that you will really appreciate the big guys from the 1970's and their culture. Lou Ferrigno looks awesome, but the true star is Arnold. Whether he took steroids or not, growth hormone does not give you proportion, symmetry, height and the natural propensity to build big muscles. So if you want to study a gifted, inspirational athlete, buy this DVD and watch it before going to the gym.

The Best Guy Bods Ever! 5 Star Review
2009-09-02 - I purchased for my husband who was seriously into weightlifting some years ago. I'm not sure if he's looked at it, I think he said he remembered seeing it when it first came out in the VHS tape format. I plan on looking at it sometime in the future and I decided to purchase it because from time to time, I heard references about it in various media arenas and more recently I was looking at my husband's muscle mag and there was an article about both guys where reference again was made about them in Pumping Iron so I was curious and the price was right! My favorite muscle guys were Lou (The Hulk) & Arnold (Conan and later the Terminator).
