The Beauty of the Sea Reviews:
Aloha from Hilo
2007-05-15 - I saw Dread Ashanti perform many years ago at the Akebono theatre in Pahoa. This was my first exposure to their music, and it was awesome!
Very sad that they don't still perform. I think I even caught them perfom @ Anna B's once, but too many beers to remember for sure :)
I prefer their first CD "Rising" to "The Beauty of the Sea", but both are excellent.
If you have never heard of this band, get Rising first, but do get both CD's. You won't be dissapointed!
Ragga
2005-12-21 - Having only heard the previews, it sounds like great reggae. However, the real reason I'm rating this as five is because two people have rated it stupidly and put its rating down.
I may be biased, but...
2003-01-26 - Aloha and right on to the very positive review above (01-23-2003)! It is great to hear such kind and Poppa-D-Positive words about the truly good ol' days. Let us just hope-Jah Guide-that we will soon be packed once again like sardines into Anna's, roots music moving until they shut us down. Inside ram, outside empty! In the meantime, keep an ear to the floor for a live release that hopefully will be coming soon. Anyone seen Ital?
Mahalo Nui, from one half (the distant one) of the Drum and Bass line
DREAD
2003-01-24 - I was very upset to see people who dont even like reggae come on here and rate Dread Ashanti... Dread Ashanti is a band from Hawaii that is unfortunetly no longer together. Those who havent heard the whole album "Beauty of the Sea" and "rising" are missing out on this bands sweet riddum and Poppa D's lovely vocals mixed with the right amount of everything...Fans of modern reggae with a rootsy sound such as Midnite, JBB, and Mystic Roots, should definitly consider Dread Ashanti as their next buy... Although Dread may be a hard find if you are located anywhere but Hawaii, SEARCH FOR IT!! Listening to this album will give people who dont live in Hawaii a taste of it. This is the kind of reggae that seems to be popular in bands starting out in our local scene. While listening to this CD imagine a bunch of people packed into a little place, skanking their hearts out, ah... the local party scene....Get this CD and see for your self...
They appear to be on my side...
2002-11-10 - The music is acessable to me, but I really want you to do exactly what their name says. Dread Ashanti. ...
In other words: I don't really like this type of music all that much, but I'd much rather listen to it than Ashanti. peace...
