I Am Me Reviews:
Confident To The Extremes!
2009-10-26 - Ashlee Simpson is definitely not her sister's shadow for this album is a more "in control" "like me for me" style definitely bold, confident, and full of spunk! Her singing is raw at times, blended on others, and definitely attitude filled to an extent. The messages behind the music also make this a phenomenal buy even for those not into rock or pop. She has proven with time that haters, critics, and boers won't stop her from achieving her dreams and staying true to herself as being "who she is". It's not about playing a role for popularity, it's not about selling sex for sales, but about reflecting on who she is as a music artist and person. This album is definitely a great achievement standing the test of time. The singing has some grunge, punk, and Courtney Love hints while also making her own signature mark. "I Am Me" is the vibe on this album. It's being happy for being who you are and never changing for anybody no matter what.
Stand-out tracks like "Boyfriend",and "L.O.V.E." have catchy dance styles along rock/pop blends adding guitars. Songs like, "I Am Me" bring to the limelight how she won't change for anybody while "Catch Me When I Fall" has a more suggestive role of wanting that special person to pick you up when the times are rough. Every single track is filled with messages that range from being yourself, not taking put downs, to getting nasty, coming back for more, and even being proud of who you are in "Beautifully Broken". One of my favorite tracks is "Say Goodbye" for the catchy beat, and words that express how a person is not there when you need him the most. It's a song many can relate to. All throughout each song was definitely relatable and uplifting for the person who has been put down, hated, or just dumped by someone else. It's a sure fire empowering vibe all the way through along guitars, rock, and blends of pop and dance hints.
This Japanese Edition has 14 tracks and the enhanced video of "Boyfriend". The bonus tracks are "Kicking And Screaming", "Fall In Love With Me", and "Get Nasty". All released included the lyrics so the lyrical sheet is all in Japanese text. "Kicking And Screaming" [2:57] has a nice raw punk grunge style that adds to the listening experience for sure. Some words, "... you're the one with something to loose... so get down and get off I'm gonna show u what you'll be missing/gonna drag u through this kicking and screaming..." "Fall In Love With Me" [2:56] has a more laid back sound along a more rich vocal pitch. "turn it up I'm falling, turn the music up and fall in love with me..." The beats are catchy, the hooks are addictive, and the twists even take some Caribbean blends along pop, rock, and punk to mid tempo grooves definitely hot! "Get Nasty" is an up-tempo rock pop track with a more fast styles along guitars, claps, and Ashlee singing about getting nasty. Some words, "... everybody's looking for a good time don't u know a good time doesn't hurt. everybody wants to feel the spotlight so let me show u how my nasty works..." There's rap interjections by Ashlee along varying beats definitely fun, energetic, and fast!
*The Taiwanese Edition has the VCD with the videos: Boyfriend, L.O.V.E--viewable in all players. The Taiwan Edition was available at Ebay so keep checking.
C'est bon.
2009-04-03 - Ashlee Simpson does it again, releasing yet another batch of solid Pop/Rock tracks. Ashlee Simpson couldv'e done alot better with her music if she had a heavier sound and stripped some of the 'Bubblegum' quality she has and embraced a more mature & edgy style, but i'm sure she wouldv'e preferd to do what her sister was doing 'Dancing around being pretty', but she adopted a Rockier sound and image... you know the rest. Although there are only 4 or 5 songs I truley like out of the entire album, They're QUALITY songs, and I have no problem giving this album the 4 stars it deserves. Songs that stand out the most are "In Another Life" "Beautifully Broken" "Dancing Alone" "I Am Me" & "Say Goodbye". The song "Eyes Wide Open" Is not what I would call a "Stand-out" and I didn't particularly care for it when I first heard it but it grew on me over time. If Simpson did more FULL LENGTH albums with songs like the ones I mentioned above her career would be more respected. She has the voice that fits a gritty/rockier sound. I also noticed her vocals sound a bit pressured on some songs as if she's trying too hard to sound a way her voice will not allow. This didn't occur on the first record, Cocky perhaps? I also was dissapointed with a few tracks on the album. "L.O.V.E." "Burnin' Up" "Get Nasty" "Fall In Love With Me" "Kicking & Screaming" & "Catch Me When I Fall". She doesn't cut it on these tracks, The lyrics are horrible and they sound rushed and mashed together. "Experiments gone wrong" is a great way to describe them. The first single "Boyfriend" is a little annoying but I still ordered the CD anyways because I liked "Autobiograghy" so much. Lastsly we have the song "Coming Back For More" which is an okay song, It sounds like a leftover from "Autobiograghy". It also sounds a little like Shania Twain's "That Don't Impress Me Much" which is an okay thing BTW, Just thought i'd mention it. Overall this cd is half N half, but the songs that I think are good are ones I like with a passion which helps with the score.
As Ashlee Is
2008-06-23 - This CD ROCKS!!!!! Who doesn't like "Boyfriend"? Catchy track. I LOVE "In Another Life". But my FAVORITE track is one of the BONUS tracks... "Kicking and Screaming". I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!! This should have been a single/video! "Nasty", fun dance tune. Thumbs up Ashlee!
Great CD
2006-02-11 - This is a great CD, I just wanted to warn others that there is no unidentified 15th track. This so-called unidentified track is really the music video for the single "Boyfriend". Other than that, the CD is great, especially the three bonus tracks!!
