Editorial Review:
The rags-to-riches story of Danny, a talented cat whose lifelong goal of movie stardom is sidetracked when he discovers only humans get the good roles in Hollywood. On the big screen, animals can bark, meow or moo, but cats don't dance. Danny vows to break through the "species barrier" and prove that dreams really can come true.
Description of Cats Don't Dance:
Actually, cats do dance, and there are a lot of little cat feet tapping all over this odd animated film. Complaints about originality can't be leveled here; the film works within the confines of the musical genre, but there's never really been anything like this. Danny the cat is from Kokomo, and he's got a short list of things he has to do to become a big star in Hollywood. Unfortunately, he's unaware that animals, even talented ones, aren't even considered for showy parts in films. They're considered window dressing for humans, especially big stars such as Darla Dimple, the unlikely antagonist here. The music is by Randy Newman, and it's not really his best, but toe tapping may occur. The animation is reminiscent of an upgraded Animaniacs, and there's a frenetic, jittery sense to the scenes (mostly dealing with slapstick humor). Older fans of animation or bygone Hollywood will have much more to appreciate here than small children, but that's refreshing in itself. --Keith Simanton
Cats Don't Dance Reviews:
Excellent Movie in Excellent Shape
2009-11-19 - This is one of those movies that flew under the radar....excellent music..the product itself arrived new and as promised
Saw It Once, Loved It For Life!
2009-10-17 - Most people have NEVER heard of this movie. In fact, I only caught a portion of it when it came on Cartoon Network. I was stunned at how great it was...and even more surprised that I've never heard of it. This movie is great in many ways: the musical numbers, voice acting, and great animation. If you haven't seen this movie, you should. Best of all, you can gather the family around (or yourself, depending), pop some popcorn, and have fun!!!
Cats Don't Dance (movie DVD)
2009-07-07 - This product was in perfect condition and came sooner then what was posted to come. It was awesome!!!
Fantastic movie, Horrible dvd release
2009-04-24 - I loved this movie when it was released in theaters. I loved it when it was released on Laserdisc (widescreen). I was very excited about the DVD release, hoping for a widescreen edition and maybe some extras. Full screen and bare bones is what we got. What a HUGE disappointment. I'll keep watching my widescreen Laserdisc until this movie gets the DVD or blu-ray release it deserves. But, I'm not holding my breath.
Arrived on time. Great Product
2009-04-20 - This was one of favorite childhood movies, and one of the first that actually had an appeal to me beyond the action and staged violence that a young boy usually goes for in movies. This movie I believe was considered a flop by Warner Bros, but I really thinks that is only because not enough people saw the movie during its debut or had even heard of it. I think this movie could easily stand with all of the big Disney/Pixar movies that were a part of many a person's childhood.
