Editorial Review:
On the French Riviera, nothing comes cheap. And when it comes to men, Irene has very rich taste. One very confusing night, she is duped at her own game. Her knight in shining armor turns out to have no shine at all. Irene, however, is the woman of Jean's dreams. The only way to win her heart back is to turn the tables on her. Audrey Tautou (The Da Vinci Code, Amelié) stars in a romantic comedy that proves true love is PRICELESS.
Description of Priceless:
Priceless provides a sweet and sour look at the world of the super-rich. Jean (The Valet's Gad Elmaleh) works at a luxury hotel on the French Riviera. His opposite number, Irène (Amélie's Audrey Tautou), lives off wealthy men, like elderly benefactor Jacques (Vernon Dobtcheff). While staying at Jean's Biarritz hotel, Irène meets the bartender, mistakes him for a guest, and plies her considerable charms. Flattered, Jean neglects to tell her the truth, and they spend a drunken evening together. The next day, she's gone. The only trace of her presence: a discarded paper umbrella. A year passes, and Irène returns with Jacques, who dumps her when he find out about the cheating, so she bilks Jean out of everything he owns before disappearing again. Wealthy widow Madeleine (Marie-Christine Adam) offers to takes care of Jean's debts--for a price. And just like that, he's sunk to Irène's level. The next time she sees him, she quips, "Now we're equals." So, instead of teaching her the value of legitimate work, Irène teaches Jean how to play Madeleine like a violin. Following in the footsteps of Pierre Salvadori's Après Vous, which centered around a suicidal sommelier, Priceless is unexpectedly melancholy for a comedy. Like the couple in Breakfast at Tiffany's, Jean and Irène are essentially two lost souls. Irène may be an icier creature than Audrey Hepburn's Holly Golightly, but Salvadori finds a satisfying way to tie a pretty bow on this somewhat prickly package and, naturally, the scenery is ravishing. --Kathleen C. Priceless Reviews:
GOOD PICTURE (1080) BAD MOVIE
2009-11-01 - UNLESS YOU BUY THE MOVIE IN BLU-RAY VERSION UNDER $ 5.00 DO IT !, OTHERWISE DON'T WASTE YOU MONEY
Refreshingly fun romantic comedy
2009-10-25 - As an American who lived in France for two years (and dislikes a lot of french films), I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this movie. I'm not much of a romantic comedy kind of guy as I think most american films on the issue are cheesy, cliched and stale. Initially I wanted to see this film because I love Audrey Tatou (Amelie was a phenomenal film). I was pleasantly surprised that the plot to this film was nothing like the irritating romantic comedies of the US. A different kind of love story, and refreshingly funny too, this film will have you smiling from ear to ear from beginning to end! Highly recommend it!
An enjoyably vacuous Riveria romp...
2009-10-25 - "Priceless" won't tax your brain cells too much as it meanders through its story about two people bent on exploiting what's on offer from the French Rivieria's rich wanting readily available companionship & sex... a storyline that's been used before, most notably in "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels". Not a great deal happens, what does is fairly predictable and there's no attempt to explore the impacts of these strange relationships on those involved. Bad news then? Well, not really, because "Priceless" isn't and doesn't pretend to be anything more than (as a previous reviewer so aptly put it) an enjoyably sweet "soufflé" - a beguilingly attractive but in the end fairly vacuous romp through the Riviera's classiest and most beautiful locations. And, if you're prepared to take it for what it is, it's a perfectly enjoyable and entertaining way to spend an hour and a half or so of your time.
I adore this movie because of Gad Elmaleh
2009-10-18 - Audrey is absolutely gorgeous, but his subtle underplayed character stole the charm for me :) she is perfectly convincing as a puppy, but his eyes and sweetness. can we see more of him? somehow, despite implausability...its calm and regal, makes you feel like you're special ;) aha
Tautou
2009-10-10 - Again a French language film, so most folks have to read the subtitles, but it is very light and entertaining, so you can get away with ignoring most subtitles, too bad the French filmmakers make no effort to dub their movies in English
