Editorial Review:
Throughout most of the '90s, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds had a lock on the R&B/pop charts. Despite his superstar status as a solo artist, songwriter, and producer, however, his smooth, melodic brand of R&B has never been what one might call "hip." In an era of blatant and brittle R&B, Face unleashed heartfelt, crafted odes to romance that might not have been cool, but they were hot. His first album since 1997's MTV Unplugged, finds Face upping the 'tude, pumping the synths, elevating his vocals into a sly falsetto, and letting his hips shake, bringing edge and energy to his seamless silky soul. Working with beatmeisters such as the Neptunes (who contribute the percolating and sexy "There She Goes"), Face fuses his grown-up songcraft to au courant beats here. Though, as he shows on the elegant ballad "With Him," he proves he can still lower the temperature to a nice simmer. --Amy Linden

Face2Face Reviews:
Lets face it...... 3 Star Review
2008-03-13 - ...This is not Babyface's best work. I wasnt expecting him to recreate his previous work because I understand that artists must move on. The thing that makes this album questionable is him trying to cater to younger audiences. Anytime a R&B legend tries to cater to a younger crowd the end product will always be questionable and Babyface is a legend. The Neptunes-produced songs(There She Goes and Stressed Out) are not bad but they're not vintage Babyface tracks. Outside In/Inside Out, What If, Still In Love With U are Babyface at his best. How Can U Be Down is cool. It's Babyface telling a story of how a conniving friend(who has the hots for Babyface) of his girlfriend is trying to destroy their relationship with lies and he is asking his girl how can she be down with somebody like that. Even with those good tracks the bad ones offset them. If I had to pick which song on this album is the worst, my vote would be Baby's Mama featuring Snoop Dogg. Work It Out and Lover And Friend are both terrible songs that should have been Michael Jordan slam dunked into yonder trash. With Him is close to old-school Babyface but no cigar. I Keep Caling and Wish U Was My Girl are Babyface at his most uninspired. And I hate to say it but Babyface is not good at singing falsetto and painful tracks like U Should Know and Dont Take It So Personal are concrete evidence of that statement. Bottom Line: Face2Face is huge dissapointment from a giant who is capable of better work. This albums sounds forced and uninspired and you know he is much better than this. Babyface should stick to formula that made every album prior to this one great and leave to desperation to stay relevant by catering to younger crowd for the artists that really need that gimmick.

Another good effort! 4 Star Review
2005-06-19 - Even though this album came out on a very tragic day in American history on 9/11, this album still holds up as one of Babyface's best. I was surprised that he had the Neptunes produce a few songs, for this superstar pairing of Face, Pharrell and Hugo was way overlooked that year. The songs were unbelievably funky! Stressed Out is as funky as 'Face's It's No Crime and Can't Stop My Heart! The Baby Mama song with Snoop Dogg shows Babyface at his most aggressive as he goes after a woman who doesn't do her part of taking care of the baby. His most explicit, but Babyface turns the tables on this one and goes after the woman who did him wrong. It shows he can take chances with his songs and not just be limited to his trademark romantic ballads. But Babyface's own songs have a lot of melody and rhythm, as he's always done. Even he plays acoustic guitar on a few songs. The one ballad that was a hit is still one of his best post-Epic period records. Why people overlooked Babyface's album is beyond me as this still shows stronger vocals from him.

Face2Face 5 Star Review
2005-05-21 - I remember this album when I was in the 9th grade. I love this album but most people did not but I don't care. This album is enjoyable showing a diverse side of him. This album boldly presents a Babyface not heard before. This album features Babyface who has never had a problem crafting a hit record on his own. The result is an exhilarating, ambitious Face who pushes the musical envelope and fabulously redesigns himself in the arduius process. The album features him on guitar, keyboards and bass guitar and sonically,it is the warmest record ever. This album should have been promoted more. Remember, this was 2001.

Not What I Expected 2 Star Review
2005-03-18 - I have every cd Babyface has released. I go back to his Manchild days, and then to the Deele. I was so disappointed with this. Babyface using profanity is not something that I ever thought I'd hear. There are 3 or 4 songs worth listening to; What if, how can you be down, baby's mama (maybe), and with him. Else, this is without question the worst cd Babyface ever released.

He still continues to do it!!! 5 Star Review
2004-11-16 - I am a huge Babyface fan. I've liked everything he's put out since his days as a member of "The Deele". This CD is Babyface like we've never seen him before. Far more uptempo and less conservative than any of his other albums, but it still has the knock out punch and smooth soul like any of his other masterpieces. Alot of people has spoken negitive about this CD but i feel that comes from the fact that people have a hard time adjusting to change. This is not a typical babyface production. So when you hear it, it will be a shock at first. But it still has the quality and will give you the satisfaction of a well put together album. It is a must buy. GO BABYFACE!!!
