Description of Waiting To Exhale: Original Soundtrack Album:
Waiting to Exhale is the exception that proves the rule about mish-mash '90s soundtrack albums. Even though it features 22 different female voices, the album boasts a rare continuity because Babyface wrote or cowrote 15 of the songs and produced all 16. Moreover, the gifted R&B artist used every song to explore the film's theme of women trying to balance self-respect and romantic desire. Not only has Babyface (nee Kenny Edmonds) created a fascinating song suite, he has produced one of the best middle-of-the-road-pop, adult- contemporary albums of the decade. Mary J. Blige stakes out a claim as the new diva on the block with an astonishing performance on "Not Gon' Cry." Babyface's music and lyrics suggest a woman barely holding back a swelling flood of anger and heartache, and Blige's brilliant vocal captures both the agitation and the restraint. --Geoffrey Himes
Waiting To Exhale: Original Soundtrack Album Reviews:
None Better
2009-12-14 - This CD has gotten me through the rough times and been with me through the good ones. I've "loaned"/given away a couple/few copies. It's the ultimate break up CD, or something to help you vent when you're just a bit on the peeved side. The last track is an amazing tribute to friendship and my childhood friends and I claim it as our song to this day. I listen to every track on this CD, and they're all in the perfect order too. Did I mention that there were some steamy tracks too? ;)
One of my all time favorite soundtracks
2009-09-21 - All I have to say is that this is one of the most beautiful soundtracks I have ever listened to. I get teary-eyed every time I listen to these songs. They are powerful and speak to the soul. I really love Whitney Houston. This album shows you why she is Whitney. I really hope she makes a comeback because her voice is one of the best of all time. I also hope they make another movie and soundtrack as good as "Waiting to Exhale." We're due for another great movie with a great all female cast.
Scratched CD
2008-12-13 - Although this is a classic CD, my purchasing experience was diminished by the fact that I received the CD at the very end of the delivery period and upon playing the CD, discovered two of the tracks are scratched. The seller indicated the CD was in good condition when I purchased it.
Got me through a terrible breakup
2008-07-22 - A very close friend gave me this CD when I was going thru a terrible breakup. I listened to the CD so much I wore it out. But with the help of the CD, my good friend, and the passing of time somehow or another I managed to survive. Fast forward years later, a different yet equally close friend of mine is going thru a divorce and, yes, you guessed it, I'm on Amazon today purchasing the CD for her. I don't know what it is, but this CD is empowering. Makes you cry, makes you angry, makes you want to dance, and makes you dare to dream again. It's a great CD and even better medicine.
