Editorial Review:
On Never Gone, the Backstreet Boys crib from the pop foundation they helped establish. Like a lot of smart popsters on the rebound, the reunited fab five broach their return by borrowing from the current hit makers. Even after a four-year hiatus, the flecks of new influence won't matter a bit to the fans. The boys' signature sugar-coated yearning softens every song to a melty consistency, and the lyrics haven't lost any of their babe-magnet pull. "It's all so dark and mysterious/When the one you want doesn't want you," sing the chiseled Lotharios on "Siberia." And on the final title track, a swirling crescendo sums up the sentiments of millions of heartsick, former teen devotees: "Never gone, never far/In my heart is where you are." -Tammy La Gorce
Never Gone Reviews:
backstreets back
2007-02-24 - Well after 4 years since the relaese of drowning the boys are back with alot more mature sound and its graet!
Though kevin and howie dont sing much on any of the songs, (with like 3 exeptions if that, AJ and Nick have got the job sorted, with great songs like siberia and loose it all, this is a great album but if you can relate to it the stand out song is the brilliant Incomplete, amazing vocals supassed only by the exeptional lyrics, the boys are back, (shame that take that are to).
This is a must have!!
Backstreet Boys Never Gone- Dual Disc
2006-12-13 - In case people are wondering what a dual disc is, in the case of Backstreet Boys Never Gone... a dual disc is, you have the audio CD on one side of the disc, and on the other, a DVD which would have like either bonus videos, live in concert footage, interviews with the band, or music videos and the making of that video... that's exactly what this bonus thing on the CD is. It has the music video for Backstreet's number one hit song Incomplete, plus it has the making of Incomplete. If you want to know what I thought of the audio version of this album, just read my review of Backstreet Boys Never Gone, the single sided CD. But I will give a review of what I thought of the video Incomplete and the making of Incomplete. First off, I thought the making of Incomplete was really funny. My favorite part was when Nick sings "we're gonna start the fire" and then he says "actually I didn't start it, they started it". Overall, I highly recommend this CD along with the single-sided CD to anyone whether they are a Backstreet Boys fan or not. By the way, the Backstreet Boys have earned my complete respect over the years, and being a fan of them, my respect for them has truly grown!
great buy!
2006-05-11 - Of course I've been a fan of this band since the beginning, but like many I was slightly skeptical of this cd. I hoped that it wasn't underproduced or poorly put together. God knows they had plenty of time to invest (5 years since there last album release) to make a great cd for their old and new fans. Luckily I wasn't dissapointed. Yes there are some not so good moments (Lose It All, Never Gone... *yawn*) but the rest of the cd is exactly what I wanted to hear. It's a slightly different direction for the guys but it's a good one. They all sound great (notably AJ and Brian.. Nick sounds a bit too whiny sometimes)
If you want to know about the tracks:
Highlights: Incomplete, Just Want You To Know, I Still (personal favourite), Poster Girl, Climbing the Walls, Siberia
Love it after a few listens: Weird World, Safest Place to Hide, Crawling Back
Might love it, you might hate it: My Beautiful Woman
All in all it's a good comeback cd. If they don't get back together for another album this would be a weet note to end on!
The Backstreet Boys are heartbroken and want you back...
2006-04-27 - This is so much better than I ever would have expected from a boy band known mostly for soppy love ballads.
Thankfully one day on a random journey to a not-so nearby suburb, I encountered a second hand cd shop which supplied this magnificent cd/dvd combo; and it's been perhaps the best and most worthy cd purchased this year.
If you go solely by songs played on the radio such as: 'Just Want You To Know' and 'I Still', you might prejudge this cd as trash, not worth a single look, but you may actually be surprised if you give it a shot just how different their material is from previous records. Chances are, you'll end up loving those two songs in the end anyway! :P
The Backstreet Boys have thrown away the hearts, roses and boxes of candy; they have been hurt, rejected, forgotten and miss someone like crazy. And one thing's for sure: You'll hear it in their songs.
The majority of these tracks are about trying to let go of someone but having a hard time doing so; so if you've been through the same you'll likely love and relate to the heartfelt lyrics and appreciate the agony belting out in their voices.
The dvd is just as good, especially because it includes one of the best heartbreak videoclips ever: 'Incomplete'. Could anyone honestly say they would not be convinced of their pain from watching the boys act out the scene in this video?
The Backstreet Boys have finally earned my utmost respect.
If you've given up on them because of their previous cheesy attempts and songs which sound like they should be played behind an episode of Days Of Our Lives, you might let this album pass you by, and in turn, may be missing out on a cd that will last a lifetime in your cd collection.
Songs worth checking out: 'Weird World', 'Poster Girl' and 'Climbing The Walls'.
I am finally proud to call myself a Backstreet Boys fan. Well done Nick, AJ, Howie, Brian and Kevin.
